Hey everyone, so I have the day off today so I figured I would paint my engine cover. Does anyone by chance know if duplicolor or any other pant brand had a paint that is close to victory red or should I find someone who can take my paint code and mix the paint for me?

 

You have to buy special paint because it needs to be able to withstand the heat of the engine. Go down to your local auto store and buy GM Red and make sure its the spray can that says like 500 F so you know it can hold in the temperatures.

 

I got you. Now I have another, probably stupid, question. I have never had to take off my engine cover...how would I go about doing so? haha. I have the 06' monte SS

 

The cover doesn't get so hot to require engine temp paint. You will be fine.

Take off your oil cap and pull the cover. You won't break it but it can be stubborn.

 

Will I get any difference in finish if I go with high temp paint or non high temp paint?

 

Finish is all about prep and how well you sand between coats. Just don't mix brands for paint and clear

 

I did it to my 06 cover years ago before I just ditched the cover if you have an 06 LS4 the cover just snaps off without removing the oil cap pull straight up. Duplicolor does make a victory red spray paint now. As mike said preparing th plastic is everything. Make sure it is CLEAN and dry prior to painting

 

Good to know, I'm letting my engine cool down a bit before I get in there and start pulling it out. And I saw that spray paint, I ended up taking back the High heat stuff since I don't really need it and got that paint along with Pure White to do some of the accents with.

 

Post pics when you are done. Myself I just diched the cover and painted the intake manifold high heat krinkle red and the valve covers high heat krinkle black, painted the Ignigtion coils red and the coil brakets gold

 

Here's a diagram of the LS4 engine cover for 06+. There's three of those pins (#3) that the cover snaps onto and is held down with.
