I'm stuck! I have a 1972 Monte Carlo. I've been contemplating whether to go with dark gray primer, and even darker matte black racing stripes. OR if i should go with the glossy metallic 'summertime' look. I've always been a fan of matte gray paint on muscle cars, but I need opinions of Monte Carlo lovers. Matte/Primer OR Glossy/Metallic, and Why?

 

Welcome to the site - if I had a first gen (and we did have a 72 triple black but sold it) I'd stick with factory paint color & clearcoat - but I'm old school and I like the car to look original. Like paint it gloss black (even though Tuxedo black was not a standard color for 72 - it was special order) and if you want rally stripes on it paint those matte black.

 

I'm a fan of the matte look on older cars if done right. I recommend a flat paint and clear then just primer.

These guys have all types of colors in flat and the flat clear. Even metallic flat which I have on my Monte.

Where can I buy the right color paint, and how will I know the right amount I need. Basically, where can I get these things?

i also agree with the factory simple paint job, and then clear it, nothing fancy on an old car, and a flat color will be awesome, especially black!

 

I like the matte look on old muscle. I say go for it.
