My only thought is your less than ideal paint booth and imperfections getting in the paint.

Sounds like Duane is used to other door painting. And for those who are, they can do as good a job as a "clean" garage environment.

If Duane was changing color I would definitely insist on popping the glass and all the trim. I helped a friend prep an old Wrangler years ago so his dad could spray it from white to blue. He wanted to go the "quick" way against my advise and mask things off (some of which were items that took LONGER to mask then removing). In the end, he had a blue Jeep with white lines that showed up.

My only concern with what Duane is doing is risk of pealing. But, I have heard of people who pay attention to prep and the paint lasts a LONG time without peeling. I will admit, this is not how plan to eventually repaint my Camaro (as I want to go with a "factory" or better then "factory" paint job). But, in this case, Duane's got some experience under his belt and given that, I don't think he'd do it this way if he weren't confident in his end results.

Best of luck Duane! It will be nice to see the final results!!

Wow. That is something I can never try to imagine doing myself. I'm also wondering how its going to turn out.

I still remember painting the bottom trim and that took me 2 days. I can't imagine this.

I'll be watching closely for progress on this one, looks good so far Duane. I also like the cleaner look without the side door "ding" moldings or whatever you want to call those, so I'm glad to see you're going in that direction. More of a preference of mine now that I have my 06. That and no trunk key hole. Two things I think make a huge difference with the car's appearance. Anyway, progress looks good!

Good luck got a quote on damage to my monte from cart digs at work (people have no respect) and it was 1000 dollars and would have visable repair signs. Said it would be $10000 to make it look like new again. If I could repaint it like that I would. He is right you sure got a big set I would be affraid I would mess up.

I don't know about the "big set." If you ever followed me on Facebook, yo uwould see that I have painted two '74 pick up trucks, a '50 Chevrolet 4 door, my Torino, my dad's Fairlane, a friends Camaro, a friends Silverado, an aquaintences minivans front and rear bumpers, my girlfriends front bumper on her Saturn, a lawn mower trailer, a lawnmower, and now my Monte Carlo.

My dad had a body shop many years ago. I learned the basics from him and I've been coming up wtih my own little techniques and tricks ever since. I'm just working my little way up.

I'm thinking if I have a lot of luck today, I might be ready to paint sometime tomorrow. It's all goign to depeend though.

I got to give you props for sure duane!.....Your sure maken quick progress.

Apparently you have the technique down for painting it there in the barn.
With all the vehicles you have painted thus far there!

If we lived closer, Id be willing to have you repaint my Monte for sure...
You definately look like you know what your doing from the Pics! and as an Arthritic above knee amputee, I can no longer do those kinda things...

Like i could when i was younger for sure...Looking forward to see the end results!!

Well Done !
