Default Fuel door replacement

The fuel door on my 2002 has a line of rust in it, and I intend to buy a new one when the money comes around.

The scrap yard around my area has no 6th gen Monte's at all so that's a no go, so other than ebay(I will buy from ebay but it's a last resort) does anyone know of a good site that sells oem style fuel doors, as all I can find are aftermarket.

Thanks in advance!

Don't know of a site off hand Nick. I assume you tried to Google it?

Yeah, with no luck. Every site just seems to have the aftermarket fuel doors.
Gmpartsdirect has been helpful in the past but it looks like i'll have to go with ebay.

FYI - If I recall, the fuel door is riveted (not bolted) to the body. Something to keep in mind when if you try to source it from a yard that you need to pull the part yourself.

I had noticed that they were riveted. I was planning on using the same spring assembly from the original door and just work in the new one when I find it but that's definitely a good thing to keep in mind.

Cool

Finally found a fuel door replacement at my local yard today.
Lucky for me it was like new, and the same color as my monte!

Here's a picture of my old fuel door before the switch
(I bought the car this way, i'd never let something of mine get this bad)

After a lot of struggling with the original rivets having a rusted bolt on the internal side of things( and a couple of broken dremel bits), the old door finally came off.

Here's the new door, looking good as ever.

Thanks again for the heads up on those rivets Maniac, that could have made this a really bad situation.

Next project, the wing spoiler installation.

I have the same problem, how exactly did you get those rivets out?

Fuel door is held by 2 10mm nuts on the back side, you can access them by removing the plastic around the fuel neck or by removing your wheel well liner

Exactly what he said. My method was by taking off the plastic around the fuel neck as it is much less work then removing the wheel well liner in my opinion.
The bolts are kind of tricky to get a socket wrench on, and if they are rusted be very careful about stripping them.

I stripped the top one of mine during the process and had to use a Dremel tool to cut the end off of it( being extremely careful with sparks near a gas cap ).
