Looks really good!

I'm actually wanting to paint an engine cover for mine soon. I want to do the color scheme like yours but black where yours is white, so red (maybe not as bright of a red) and black with black lettering. I'm kind of going for the Corvette Z06 look. Zach (xxtheshockerxx) has offered me the spare LS4 engine cover he has, so we shall see. Yours gives me an idea of how the red on the cover looks.

What all did you do to prep the cover for paint?

I started off by just getting it cleaned and got all the grease off with wax and grease remover. After that I used some 100 grit sand paper to sand it and get it all scuffed up. Then I sprayed some plastic primer to help the filler primer stick. After that I got filler primer and sprayed it till I had probably a good 6 or 7 coats. I started off with a few light coats and then got heavier with every coat after that to prevent runs. Then I let it sit for a couple days in the sun so it could bake. After that I sanded it with 400 grit sand paper and got it nice and smooth. I then went over it with 800 grit wet sand paper until it was perfectly smooth. Then I cleaned it with some anti static cleaner. Then I set it up on some horses and sprayed the red. I did 2 light coats a medium coat and then a heavier coat. I then let it sat for a couple days in the sun. After that I taped everything off, the letters by them selves took like 2 and a half days to tape between. I kind of just cut little pieces and stuck them around the letters till everything was taped off. Then I sprayed the white, again doing 2 light coats, a medium coat, and a heavier coat. Then I let it dry for about a day before I took the tape off and then I let it bake in the sun for a couple more days. Then I sprayed the clear and did about 5 coats of it getting a little heavier with each coat, with the last couple being fairly heavy. Then I let that bake for a couple more days. And that is pretty much it.

This one is probably really close to what you are looking at. I saw this one online and it is kind of where I got my ideas.

Also I used the perfect match paint from duplicolor. I used Pure white and Victory red. So the red is the same as the red on my car. Which is a pretty bright red. I know when I was doing some shopping for paint. Duplicolor had another paint line that had a red that I don't think was as bright. I believe it was there Acrylic Paint that is in the black can. They also have one in a blue can but if I remember right the blue can just had clear coat, white, and black for color selection. Anyway, hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing your prep/paint method. So that's a bit more of a process than I thought but that doesn't surprised me at all; whatever needs to be done to do it right. Yes, that example pic you posted is pretty much how I want mine done but with black lettering.

The hardest part by far is taping in between the letters. Other then that it is just a matter of trying to be patient and let things dry really well before moving on to the next step haha
