Cool Brittany question about exhaust paint

Brittany, I remember a year or so ago you painted your exhaust black. How is that holding up? Is it flaking off, or does it still look nice?
Did you use high temp engine paint, or did you use some of that BBQ grill paint? Any pointers or things you would have done differently?

Thanks for your time!

I painted mine also, with high temp paint, holding up just fine, i used the lower temp paint too.

I think I remember her using the grill paint also, but not 100% sure

Did you do yours black? I would love to paint the mufflers and pipes silver for that "new" look.

How long since you painted it? Did you drive it on salty roads?

Thanks Trewyn!

Hey sorry as you might have seen my thread about the carpal tunnel, I have not been on that much lately so sorry bout getting to ya so late. & I only painted the mufflers to the tips black...i didn't have enough room to paint anything else...only bad thing about having a low car lol it is holding up great so far. I checked it not that long ago & there is no rust, flaking or anything going on with it besides the fact that it is dirty lol. I used grille paint that I got from Home Depot to paint it with.

What I did was clean the mufflers and tail pipes really well and then I used painters tape to completely tape off the tail pipes so no over spray would get on them. Then I used rust convertor around the place where the tail pipes were welded to my mufflers. Let that dry for a bit and then sprayed it with the grille paint and let it dry overnight. There isn't anything else I would've done differently other then doing it at night bcuz I could barely see (I know stupid idea! But it was a last minute one the night before a show lol) and I wish I would've done it at my dads shop so I could've done a better/cleaner job at it. I plan on painting the entire system once I put my new struts and springs on sometime this summer so I'll tell ya how that goes with how it holds up where it gets hotter

I also painted my exhaust high temp gloss black (in my photobucket) and it looked awesome alll summer. After winter it has lost its luster and I definitely plan on redoing it unfortunately.

I painted my exhaust on my 03 and used high heat exhaust paint that I bought from Eastwood. Held up very well. Last year before nationals I touched up along the welds and the systems been on my car for over 7 years now. I've driven 2 winters with the system on - the 03 gets stored now.
