Default Bowtie Emblems

Hey guys, I know this question has been asked a few times before, but I wanted to get the best opinion on how to change the color of the bowties on the grill and trunk. I ordered some black vinyls to fit the Impala (I thought it was the same size) and they came in today, but of course they didn't fit and it looked like crap.

I was wondering, should I still continue looking for vinyls, or maybe even a custom shop that can make them. Or I could also take the bowtie off and paint or plasti-dip the inside of it, or paint/plasti-dip the outside...so many choices

It kinda sucks that we can't just pop the emblem off like they do on the trucks.

Opinions???

you can most likely cover it with black vinyl, or you can also search for compatible aftermarket items.

edit.....
I'm not certain, but I do think you can also take the Chevy bowtie emblem apart??

I've seen guys mask around it and actually paint the emblems. Depends on what you want to do because, yes, there are vinyl overlays and those aren't nearly as permanent as paint. I had thought about blacking out the Bowties on mine, but I'm just going to leave them how they are. Although, I am still considering painting the chrome grille trim black.

please don't do the overlay . . . it's more expensive and IMO doesn't lok as good. It's really REALLY easy to get the emblem off the front grill and the trunk if those are the ones you want to do. If this is what you want to do, i can give you a whole write up on what to do. Also, you can do any color you want . . .

I agree, I wouldn't do the overlay either. Look at the link 03SSLE posted. Notice how that overlay only covers the raised surface and not the edges which, unless that's the look you're going for, looks odd. If anything, cover the entire gold portion. Jester's looks very good, I'd ask him about it.

when i had my bowtie in front it was power coated aluminum and looked great. it was a little more expensive than an overlay but well worth it. I ended up putting an SS emblem on the front of mine now

If time permits I would just take the emblem off and paint it to what you like. It's not really hard to do it just takes time to do it right. There are a few write ups here on how to paint.

Like I said, I ordered the overlays and they looked like complete crap. It honestly looks worse in person than it does on the computer screen I thought about painting it or powder coating it as well...my friend did it with his truck but the emblem was easy to take off.

I want to do it right if I'm going to take it off and put it back on, so any pointers would help.

Jester if you are able to, I would love a write up or even just a basic how-to on the bowtie painting. Your's is exactly the look I'm going for, though I wish mine was an SS :P
