Default Xbox 720 rumored to debut in jan 2012 at ces and e3

Report: Xbox 720 Will Be Smaller, Cheaper Than Xbox 360

New console to be based on the ARM architecture.

Microsoft may be keeping quiet about development of the next generation Xbox, but a couple of crucial aspects of the console have surfaced by way of reputable Microsoft leak blogger MS Nerd.
The Xbox 720, as it has become commonly referred to as, is allegedly codenamed "loop," and will be much smaller than the Xbox 360. Moreover, MS Nerd claims the system will cost less to produce in the hopes for achieving higher Kinect adoption. In addition, the console will be based on a modified version of the yet-to-be-announced Windows 9.

MS Nerd continues by stating that "It will use a Zune HD-like hardware platform—a 'main' processor with multiple dedicated assistive cores for graphics, AI, physics, sound, networking, encryption and sensors. It will be custom designed by Microsoft and two partners based on the ARM architecture."

Microsoft has yet to divulge in any information regarding their next console, although it is rumored that it will be revealed next year at E3.

I kind of like the xbox 360 slim. i thought that would be around for another year or so. but i guess like with everything it has to be updated.

I don't know how games could get any better than they already are.

Better processors and ram will allow the games to keep the HD graphics going much smoother. This way game companies don't have to fake the HD by upscaling or using background blurs.

They fake a lot. Most multi-platform games are made for the xbox and ported to the PS3 so the PS3 hardware advantages aren't even used. They just blur things, and upscale 720p games to 1080. Very hard to find real 1080p games.

I'm about to open my 360 with Forza 4 tomorrow morning, Christmas day. The old 360 will be good enough for me.
