The speedometers on hte 93-97 only went to like 85 mph because of the tires.
That scared teh **** out of me and I read about what was coming.
Guess I better get a better drive shaft if I ever get one of those cars.

Hi Mod `Mike,
Maybe it's a conbination of both ?
Below quote from article on posted vid link
In the case of the Mustang V-6, the car is limited to 112 mph since its lightweight drive shaft is designed more for fueleconomy than outright performance.
Remove the electronic governor, and the V-6 Mustang will wind out past 135 miles per hour. Until the drive shaft explodes, that is, sending shrapnel up through the transmission tunnel and into the passenger compartment.

Hi `Duane, I know `if it happened to me that I would be changing my Boxer's 4-Sure ~> LOL

Discomforting for sure. I know 135 mph exceeds the normal threshold, but if driven hard on a regular basis, how long would it last within the OE limits? Sure this indicates a weak or less durable driveshaft altogether since I've never really heard of shattering a drivershaft at speed.
But I'd still buy one. If I found myself in the market for a fuel efficient coupe. Ford has done a better job selling me on their V6 than Chev or Dodge has in the Camaro and Challenger. Even if the driveshaft explodes sometimes.

First there was the Ford Pinto.
A mandatory dealer add-on was the bumper sticker on the rear bumper that read: 'Caution, I explode on impact'.
Then there was the Ford Granada.
It was lovingly nicknamed the 'Grenada' because they would grenande the engine.
Now there's the Ford Mustang.
It takes the phrase 'Getting the shaft' to a whole new level.

Don't get me wrong I think mustangs are ok, but it seems like everyone and their grandma has at least 2, when my dad and his girlfriend lived down in texas they said it was the most popular car, well in the town of Redoak and Waxahaci or however ya spell it at least. They're common around here, in high school there was always at least 6-10 Mustangs and maybe 2 Camaros, guess the Mustangs were more affordable lol

Drive shaft was also an issue on the 4.0L mustang - people who were adding the Xcharger supercharger to the 6s were blowing drive shafts too.
