Still a lot of them in people's backyards in 1977. Not to mention the parts source found in salvage yards.

For many years a guy from up north drove 5 trucks plus trailors out west. He'd fill the trailors and come back here. Sure the parts were nice. Little rust and such. He had to have made some money off this venture as he did it for several years.

I know he was selling '57 Chevy front fenders in the neighborhood of $150-$300 each.

There are a lot of nice first cars. I wish I could have had some of them. I grew up in New England where the roads were salted and the winters were long. By 1977 the 57 Chevy was nothing more than a distant memory. I can see one of those in my future as there was one in my past. The one in my past I don't know much about. I know it was a two door Bel Air and that it was coral in color.
I've never seen the car or pics of it as I was an infant when my folks had that car. It sounds like it was a cool car but my parents were not and are not car people so some really nice cars passed thru their hands. They were always family cars. No sports cars, no muscle cars. But in their group of cars was the 57 Chevy Bel Air two door, a 61 Dodge 2 Door either a Phoenix or Pioneer, a 63 Plymouth Fury wagon, a 65 Plymouth Fury III two door, 66 Pontiac Catalina 9 passenger wagon,66 Chevy II Nova wagon, 69 Olds 98 4 door hardtop, 70 Ford Maverick 2 door, 72 Ford LTD 4 door hardtop, 73 Olds Cutlass Supreme, 76 Datsun B-210 hatchback, 78 Pontiac Sunbird 2 door sedan. The cars that came after that were not very interesting and by then I had my own cars. These cars were distinctive enough that they left an impression on me at a young age. Due to the fact that these cars lived in Massachusetts and Vermont, I am certain that they all dies there too.
