`Lou (Taz) & Member's, I think the background of the writer of this subject/thread article says volumes. He does not have a automotive background & again I think he was just trying to justify his position by writing anything to just fill `up some space. I'd bet that he has never even drove a Monte Carlo & most likely drives a `Smart Car (LOL), cause he thinks the title of a ride is impotent <~ LOL ~>

I read the Aztec is what killed Pontiac and I think its one of GMs ugliest vehicles. I understand that everyone loves the RWD Montes but I've told the story before I know when I saw this body style when I was a kid I fell in love with it so its really what drew me to Montes even with FWD. So clal em slow ugly stupid whatever you want I love my Monte Carlo, I bought it because it was stylish a 2 door, good MPG affordable and because when I was a kid it was my realistic dream car.

Funny how these people that wrote the article don't mention the Chevy Vega (aka compacted rust) or the Nissan Puke, Cube, or about half of Infiniti (barf), or the 4-Door Dodge Charger.

Dodge needs to go back and watch "The Dukes of Hazzard" for the proper way to do the Charger.. (minus the Confederate flag of course)

The Lincoln F150 I mean Mark LT, and the Cadillac Suburban I mean Escalade, are also great examples. Car companies really need to make the rebadging less obvious. For a company that wants to be cutting edge with some of their designs, the Escalade is out of place in the Caddy lineup. Ford wised up and discontinued the Mark LT, and GM wised up and discontinued the Chevy Avalanche/Cadillac Escalade EXT.
The Monte was very unique, I think, and it was very nicely done. Yes, it's not perfect, and yes, it did share the same platform as other GM vehicles, but it done in a way that lets the Monte stand out.

haha i read the first page... gotta say i completely agree with the OP, these really were terrible, my monte ss was the definition of super slow, fwd, no power, sloppy handling and it somehow managed to chew through several transaxles all while running 18's in the quarter... yeah terrible car for sure, cant stand driving a stock one anymore it makes me want to drive it off a cliff

the only reason i still have mine is i've been through a lot with it and done a lot of work to it... and its fun stomping the heck out of people that know that this gen. of monte was as fast as molasses in january... oh and its even more comfortable when the seats are worn out

i do want one of the 80's Monte's pretty bad though... the last real monte carlo's

I'm glad these articles exist to inform me. I had always thought GM hit it out of the park with 2000+ redesign. That was even before I ever considered purchasing one. Oh well, I love mine anyway.

Assuming the 6th gen came with more power then any Monte Carlo before it, I fail to see the problem.

Apparently this guy who wrote the article has never driven one
Nor owned one I'm sure.
The Monte Carlo is more than just speed and performance, It takes a certain kind of person to own a Monte, as with any vehicle! Just because you don't fancy it shouldn't give people the right to write an article about it.
Nothing is perfect, no car is perfect, you can find a flaw in every single car out their I'm sure, and that's because different people, have different tastes. That's why there are millions of different kinds of cars out there! Imagine if there was only one car company and one brand of car? What would people bi*ch about then if we all drove the same exact thing?? What bad tires the other person has?
It'll never stop and these articles just make me laugh.
This guy probably drives around in a 96 Nissan Quest or something. a car worth a total of whatever he can get at the scrap yard for it.

The Monte Carlo, 1st, 4th 6th gen doesn't matter, is a great car no doubt we all know that. It's not just a car, it's a way of life.
