I was thinking that too. Sometimesthose year modelget kinda confusing. The fork truck we hadwas a '99, they didn't even make a '98 in that model (I think they made 1/2 tons but not the bigger trucks, it was when they changed them to look like the Dodge). We ordered the POS in the spring of '98.

Keep in mind that Carfax only reflects accidents that have police reports and/or any insurance claims on the vehicle. It will not reflect an accident where the owner paid for the repairs out of pocket.
Also, lots of scam artists out there looking to rip folks off when they show up with that 5 grand in their pocket. Most are smarter than that, but some aren't.

Rolled back odometers, 100 pounds of bondo, stolen vehicles, etc...

I've seen someone get stuck with a car once that had constant alignment problems that would never correct, no matter how hard the alignment shop tried. Turns out the car was a wrecked vehicle that never got reported. The back half of the car had been wrecked and chopped off. The good rear end of another wrecked car with front end damage was welded onto the good front end of the first car. With a lot ofbody shop work, and a few new interior pieces,the car was sold to some unsuspectingvictim.

The person didn't want the car anymore, understandably. Police department took it off her hands for demonstration purposes. They put the car through a crash test, and the welds cracked.

That's a one in a million occurance though.

 

Now you guys have got me scared. And it didn't take much to begin with. An '01 Monte with 45,000 miles for $5k? Sounds TOO good to be true.

But I talked with the seller on the phone yesterday about the car. And he swears the miles are the original, first time around miles.

I know taking it to a body shop to have it looked over, and driving it before any money is plunked down is amust.

 

It is not too good to be true. Go for the deal after a carfax. It is just that there was only one year for a DE and one year for an Intimidater....02 and 04 respectively.

 

Just a thought here in the middle of the night (can't sleep, LOL), but the title, registration, insurance card should all have the year listed.

 

I get the feeling the seller isn't overly worried about selling the car. It kind of feels like they believe the car will sell itself? So the year of it isn't of much concern to them maybe?

It is listed as an '01 and they claim it's an Intimidator Monte Carlo. I've checked on it a couple of times.
