That's what I thought too.

Mine is an '02 Dale Edition. Dealerwas asking9,995, I got it for 8,980. (KBB - 10,250, NADA- DE Edition - up to 23,000 -yeah right, LOL, NADA -non DE edition- 10,000). I went through a dealer instead of an individual so expected to pay a bit more - it was also "THE"one I wanted, otherwise I might not have paid it.
When we looked at it, theysaid a lot of people wanted it but didn't have the credit to get it financed because of the mileage. We didn't have any trouble getting it financed but we do have good credit. It's financed through Bank of the West in California. Maybe they could help you.

I do not think 5K is too much unless it's really rough.

I was going to suggest a carfax report also. Intimidator or not, it sounds like going to see anyway. $5k for an '01 with 45k miles.

I too was under the impression that DE editions were only in '02 and '04. But it's possible that it's a very rare '01 DE edition, or someone bought the badges and stuck them on himself.

I would go into looking at this car a little skeptical. You know the saying, "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is."

Maybe the guy has the year wrong. Email GM and ask if there were any '01 DEs made or get a Carfax (I'd get that anyway).

 

Whether it is or isn't a real DE, it still sounds like a good deal.

Not sure about other years, but the '04 signature series Monte's have a sticker on the driver's door jamb somewhere. The sticker is a legal notice saying that the driver's name and number and logos are used with permission from NASCAR, blah, blah, blah.

The seller says the car is an '01. So I can only go by that at this point. I guess the VIN would tell what year it is if a history was done on it.

And it looks just like Becky's car.

 

RJ, if it's just like mine, if it's clean and runs, I'd jump all over it. The one you're looking at has less than half the miles mine has and you seen what I paid. I'd get a personal loan if I couldn't get it financed. Checking the VIN like you mentioned will tell for sure the year.

But just wondering if the owner is mistaking it for an '01 because it was bought in the fall of '01, but it would actually be an '02 ???

Would be a heck of a deal to be getting an '02 for $5k
