Dependable? I dunno. As a much as I like them, I dunno if I'd call them reliable or dependable. Not sure if that's necessarily the engine's fault, or the fault of the rest of the systems Mazda designed to work with it, but the people I've known with FDs and rx8s haven't had particularly great luck. Usually the issue is wiring, cooling, vacuum lines, etc though so I will give you that much.

They seem a lot better once you fix some of the common factory issues.

I do love that idle sound, especially with an aggressive port! Downside is that killer gas mileage though...
