Rick, your story sounds like mine. I was up to four packs a day, smoking everywhere except the shower, and finally the burning taste of constant smoke got to me and I quit on the National Smoke-Out Day which was Nov. 15th that year . The funny thing is that I still think of smoking every day, and when people around me are smoking I edge closer to get a second-hand whiff. It's still one of my favorite smells in the world, right after a freshly poured bowl of Cocoa Crispies and milk. Yummmmm I can taste them now.
I smoked when I was on Active Duty. The stress will do it to you. I do still dip though. Not one of my best habits but I doubt I'll try to quit till after I'm home from my next deployment. Deployment (and medic school if I can get in) will be tough enough without the stress of trying to quit to be honest.
I honestly don't like the smell of cigarettes but I LOVE the smell of cigars. I do enjoy a good cigar every now and then (not the cheap crap, I'm talking the quality ones!). I usually only have them for special occasions though.

MORNING Jerry: When I quit. I did like right now! Done. Guess i'm strong when it comes to stuff like that. Funny thing is. 10 yrs after I quit. The whole family is at my sister's for Thanksgiving. The guys are downstairs watching football. The women are upstairs talking about us
... Everyone is having a beer and the game is a good one. My brotherin law light one up. I look over at him. Then ask him. Hey give me a hit on that . He says you quit! I said just one hit is all. holy sh** I was dizzier then if had drank 10 beers. I went and got a bite to eat and that was the end again for my smoking. Never touched one again.

[quote=ChibiBlackSheep;381868]25 years without smoking? What a coincidence, me too
Congratulations!!!! How'd you quit? Was it tough to do? I got some Nicorette gum but ended up only using a few pieces. Mostly it was cold turkey. And more will power than I thought I possessed.
