Try doing an oil change with 10, or 15 if the knock is really bad. Might just get you some more life out of it.

 

10 or 15w30 won't help anything, that's only the viscosity when the engine is cold not when it is warm.

Bumping it up to 40 when at operating temp is actually thicker. Although I wouldn't recommend it, if you are just killing the car it's worth a try

 

I'm not going to bother with different oil, if anything I might change it and try motor honey instead of rislone and see if that make any difference. But for now i'll just drive local and try and take it easy.

 

Keane, my suggestion is to park the car until you can afford to have it repaired. If you keep driving it you will cause more damage. What you describe is a worn rod bearing. As the engine warms up the bearing clearance increases. That is why it gets louder after driving for a bit. If you keep driving the bearing will continue to wear. Once there's enough clearance a bearing half could spin or a connecting rod bolt could snap. If this happens you run a very high chance of putting a rod through the block. As it sits you may get away with a crank kit (versus a whole new engine) but it depends on how much damage has been done. Continued driving will eventually elongate the rod. If this happens you'll need to disassemble the engine and have the rod resized or replaced. Bottom line is the more you drive it the more $ it is going to cost to fix.

 

I appreciate the info Mike, but I don't have the funds to have it repaired in the foreseeable future and I don't have the ability to do it myself. I figure I might as well get whatever else I can out of it.
