Good morning everyone.
So I decided to go ahead with painting my engine cover and yesterday evening I started prepping my engine cover for paint; cleaned it multiple times and light sanded it but not to remove the texture of the plastic. I masked off the center portion, as I'm painting the areas over the valve covers red (GM Victory Red), and layed the first few coats of red last night. All looked good as I left it last night. This morning I noticed that the paint peeled in a few areas, like it didn't adhere in some spots. I'm not sure if it's straight-up an adhesion problem or if I didn't wait long enough for the cover to dry before I started laying paint; visibly and to the touch it was dry. I layed the paint directly onto the cover without anything else, figured that would be fine. Sucks because the red paint is mostly fine but I have small patches with no paint now, so I'm wondering how to recover from this and go about it at this point.
So how did everyone else go about painting their covers? Should I have layed primer or an adhesion aid, or something along those lines, first? Give me all your input guys.
Here's what it currently looks like with the patches that flaked off.

Work went real well!
at my weekend, 2 days off! I am still my old location of Waterville due to work, can't transfer til they find me a replacement, which they are working on. Staying with my brother on work nights, then going my new home in Vestal NY later this afternoon
I grew up in waterville my whole life, That picture is of the Sanger mansion! It's huge!! someone just bought it for 1.7 Million!
It's supposedly "haunted" as well but i think it's just a big cool creepy looking mansion That's a great picture though, really shows the country i am surrounded by.
