Went and picked her up a little over an hour ago. Everything seems to be working/running fine. I talked to the mechanic a little bit--said that it's a new gasket design that's supposed to block the oil from getting to the piston. Couldn't say for sure if it's a permanent fix or not, but did say it's not only the first one they've done-but the first time it's really been done (which is kinda good and bad at the same time) He did give me a couple tips to keep it clean and hopefully it's a done deal. Even if it's not a permanent fix, hopefully i can get my diablo tuner before it becomes an issue again

What exactly was wrong with your car?
It was the GM certified powertrain warranty that came with the car when i bought it. I just called and let them know what's going on, went in and started an oil consumption test --basically topped it off and keep an eye on how much oil is used in a specific amount of time/miles. After i failed with flying colors (and a couple months worth of waiting) i got her in and hopefully got her fixed. There really wasn't anything WRONG, it just used oil because of the DOD/AFM--which it wasn't supposed to do and since it was covered by warranty, i got her in to get fixed...for FREE!!!

The mechanic brought up an oil additive called MOA. Anyone heard of it/got opinions?

Everyone there had good things to say about it, however i haven't heard much about it. I don't usually do any oil additives since i run mobil1 fully synthetic, but would probably look into it if it's a problem preventer. Also asked about a fuel system cleaner to help with carbon build-up. Recommended 44K. Another one i haven't heard of and need some opinions.

Any info on these 2 are very welcome.

If/when you ever do trade the Monte, nobody will believe you anymore.

(your parents told me to tell you that )

44k is a competitive to Seafoam.
Same idea.

It's been recommended to me before. They're like 25 bucks a pop!

i use MOA and all the BG products. they work great. if you can get them at the mechanics cost it isnt too bad. like 8$ -16$ a can depending on what additive you buy

i know i always just got the STP stuff cuz it's cheap and better than nothin, the mechanic on the other had said it's pretty much garbage and does absolutely nothing. I'll probably end up gettign the 44k stuff and give it a try. I never used to get premium fuel (i know i know), but since everything's all spick and span in there, i figure now's as good a time to make the switch as any. I know that premium is recommended especially for the ls4, but the reasons i ran super unleaded are--I've never noticed a difference with how the engine runs from premium to super, it's cheap, and because they use corn to make it, which supports alot of people/business' in the area...my parents being 2 of them--BUT if premium's what keeps the monte clean and strong, that's what i'm gonna start using.

For my next question....

I always run mobil 1 5-30, the dealership however, did the oil change and put the generic conventional that they get cheap in her. I've always heard that once out switch to synthetic you should stay there, but i can't very well waste fresh oil, and i really don't know the cons of switching back and forth. Even though i'll probably run it for a couple thousand and change it, what do you guys recommend doing?
