Default Tire Choice?

Bought a 2007 Monte Carlo SS couple weeks ago. It now has Good Year RSA's. Any suggestions for a good P235-50R18. Let me know, getting ready to go shopping for some new skins.

It's a hard question to answer. What do you look for uot of your tire?

I live down south... I do'nt need winter/snow traction but maybe 5 days a year if that...

Do you want to get a lot of miles out of the tires? Do you want them to have more grip and performance? Are you very picky about having quiet tires? You've got to decide what you want out of the tire, and how much you're willing to pay.

Duane brings up very good questions. It depends on what you intend to do wirh your tires. I run snow tires on winter rims. So I'll be replacing the all seasons on my good rims with performance tires. And it really does depend on your preference. Softer ride, more grip, quieter ride, fuel efficiency. Those are all things that differ from one tire to another. And it's your preferences that matter.

Check out prices online also. But many times you can get a better deal locally at a tire shop that deals with multiple brands. You usually get free tire rotations. And often times cut you a break if you ever get a screw in your tire and need it fixed.

My parents 06 SS did terribly on Goodyear tires, ate through them every 10k no matter what they were rated.

Goodyears tend to have more rubber content in their mixture. Which gives them a softer ride, but also means they wear out faster.

I still have my 10.5 year old original RS-As on my 03 and have plenty of tread left - albeit they only have 28k on them
If I have to replace them I will probably buy the RS-As again (if they still make them) cause I want to keep my 03 as original as possible.
I had the Goodyear Eagle GTs on my 05 SS and those were horrible - didn't last 3 years or 30k miles. Replaced them with Faulkins and those were great for the price. Not sure if they come in 18s though - I bought those through Discount Tire.

I'd steer clear of goodsmear. Most of them wear out fast or ride like crap.I've yet to find one that I like.
I've had great luck with Yokohama and Nitto tires.Handkook has a few tires that people seam to really like an they're fairly inexpensive .Going to try a set on the Trans Am.

I ran Goodyear Eagle RS-A's on my 03 and those seemed to do pretty well on that car. I'm not sure how the RS-A does on the 06/07 though, as mine had a brand new set of Pirelli P Zero Nero's on it when I bought it. The P Zero Nero has been nice. I'm just about ready for a new set and was looking at Michelin.
