Default Thank You Uncle Sam

Acccording to info posted over on Chevy Talk, any vehicle that qualifies for the Cash For Clunkers not parts are allowed to be sold for them. This means if you go to say NAPA and want parts for your 1986 Monte you will be told NO parts are available.

I looked up my '86 Monte "Just to see" and...............

Combined Fuel Economy: 18 MPG
Congratulations! Your current vehicle meets Cash for Clunkers eligibility requirements to receive a $3500 or $4500 credit towards the purchase or lease of a new more fuel efficient vehicle. Select a vehicle below to determine how much funding you can get towards your new vehicle.

So this means if my car breaks they expect me to turn it in to be crushed.

Thank you elected officials!!!!

PS. and you 5th gen owners are right in the mix of this bull zhit!!!!

But isn't the CARS system going bankrupt and going to be stopped? Then what happens?

The noon news my parents were watching said they pumped another $2 billion in to the program.

NOTE: I did call my cousin who works at a local NAPA to assk him about this information? He said at this point they hadn't been contacted not to sell replacement parts for cars/trucks that fall in to the program. So maybe the information posted on Chevy Talk isn't 100% correct? It could also be the restriction set by Uncle Sam hasn't reached this area yet?

But that 2$ billion is sadly only supposed to let it go until the end of September.

IF then.

There is NO WAY they can just stop selling/making parts for cars that are still on the road. I can't see how that is possible. I don't believe it.

Also isn't there a LAW that a company HAS to produce parts for a car for 20 years, and the CARS is only for 1982 and higher. So therefore if you had a 1992 vehicle, the law means you HAVE to make car parts until 2012, so is this law beating an old law?

In all of the reading I did on the law I never saw anything about stopping production of parts. The dealers seize the motors and are allowed to part out the rest of the clunker.

Sorry, I had a Maroon '86 SS when new. (My ex got it in divorce settlement.)
I would consider that as a Future classic car. ( My Opinion.) I don't see how
they can keep you from getting parts for an '86 Monte!! So then if you have
an '86 Iroc, Vette or ... ? You can't get anything for those either?
I know that there are those in the government that would love it if we got
rid of our Classic cars! I know SEMA has be trying to lobby on this.
Big Brother is really stepping on us. Telling us what we are gonna drive, eat,
& what health care we will have. This is the tip of the Iceberg here!

Enjoy what you have right now as in the future -- people will consider these as
"The good ole days" ....???
