Hi, Barbara,
I just got in this morning from Miami to take care of some personal matters for 'Space & myself.

Thanks Barbara & Member's for your prayers & concerns.
* Space's doctors are having a difficult time trying to put together over 100 bone fragments in his foot & ankle.
It's like a bone puzzle.

  • External fixation: Your caregiver will put screws through your skin and into your broken bones. The screws will be secured to a device outside of your foot. External fixation holds your bones together so they can heal.

  • Open reduction and internal fixation: During this surgery, your caregiver will make an incision in your foot to straighten your broken bones. He may use wires, screws and metal plates, or nails to hold your broken bones together.

  • Pin fixation: Your caregiver may need to use metal wire pins to straighten the broken bones in your foot. The pins will hold the broken pieces of bone together. Pins will be placed through your skin and into your bone using a small drill.
  • What are the risks of a foot fracture?
    • During surgery, the nerves, tissues, and blood vessels in your foot may be damaged. You may have numbness or weakness in your foot and toes. Your foot may not heal properly or work as well as it did before your injury. Screws, nails, or pins used during your surgery may come loose, and you may need another surgery. You may get an infection. You may get a blood clot in your leg. The clot may travel to your heart or brain and cause life-threatening problems, such as a heart attack or stroke.

Space is in good spirits, but a lot of pain. He always has kept a positive attitude & has always had a high tolerance for pain. (he's in a lot of pain & doesn't like to take pain med's)

A person's life can change in a heartbeat 4>Sure. One day your running around, skateboarding, surfing, running the beach or doing tricks on your bike & then a accident happens & changes your whole life 4-ever. It's difficult for the beachbum family to see Space down & in pain. Hopefully his expert doctor's will be able to glue/screw/pin Space back together (we pray 4-Sure).

* Mel, it was good to read that your son is OK Presently, I'm 2 tired to catch up on all the past posts/threats, but will check back in b-4 I depart back to Miami.

Space wanted me to check in & say hello to everyone & wish you all the best in life. `amen

Hi Barbara,
I haven't really spent much time on the boat, except to sleep. Work has been busy @ the port & when I'm 'off duty, I go to the hospital. The hospital staff now is limiting the amount of visitors, because there's just been a flood of people coming to see him. (2 many in my opinion).

*Special Thanks Mod 'David!

Good morning guys, we have made it to February.

Posted info for our Michigan Spring Meet to the "Meets & Gatherings" section.

Under a winter storm warning until 7am tomorrow. We have about 1.5" right now; looking at 12-13" here by the time it's done tomorrow morning.

Good morning everyone. Glad to hear space is at least in good spirits, still hoping for a quick recovery though but it should get better. Doctors now a days can put things back together pretty well. So yesterday I got my hv3 insert put in my car. That took a couple of hours but it wasn't to bad. Finally glad to have it installed. Have a good superbowl Sunday.
