Default Stolen idea!!! ticked off!

if you give someone an idea of something you want to have made and then they turn around, make it, and sell it to people without asking me if its cool to use my idea could they owe me money? this has really gotten under my skin

Happened to me once years ago. I am a programmer by trade. A fellow worker asked me how about doing a program routine I told him hey I already have one coded that will do that and gave him the code (I didn't know he was needing for the VP of our Company) He presented it to the VP as his own Idea I got none of the credit for being the author of that code.

Kind of know what you are feeling

If you have proof that you had/made the idea/item first, i'm sure you can take it to court.

....curious, can you say what it was?

Unless you hold a copyright or a patent you are SOL.

This is basically an ethical thing.

That sucks.
It's a tough thing to handle. Since you are making the accusation, you have the burden of proving it true. Local or not, people can be taken to court over such matters. The other issue is, do you stand to gain enough to be worth while.

Sorry about your luck man.
But now I really wanna know what this idea was....

AFAIK unless you applied for a patent ideas and inventions are (unfortunately) fair game. Years ago when I was working at a service station I came up with an idea to put a piece of vacuum hose on the end of a screwdriver to aid with the installation of spark plugs. My boss thought it was a cool idea, took it from my toolbox and showed it to a Champion Spark plug rep one day. Their next catalog that came out had a tool in it that replicated my idea. And of course, they had a patent pending on it.

OUCH! I know some people who in general just use a piece of rubber hose to aid in plug installing (done it for years).

But that stinks.....
