Default Spoiler Question

General question: How effective are spoilers on production daily driver cars at normal highway speeds? Do they help or just eye-candy? Any actual research available?

Specific tie-in: On our Monte's, there are a variety of spoilers from surf board to nascar style. If spoilers DO actually work, which is best performance-wise for our cars?

I personally prefer a blade-style or NASCAR style spoiler for any car based on looks.

Possible tangent: Spoilers compared to the big import wings. Are they (wings) effective or just eye-candy? etc...

On most daily driven cars they are strictly eye candy.

It's not until you get up to a specific speed that the force would even matter, especially for a FWD car.

Thats the belief I have generally held, but I'm no physics major. Thanks for the response.

Your normal, average person's daily driver -- just eye candy. Especially our Montes.

When you start getting into the high end cars, like a Porsche, they're functional. But only when you get up to speed.

Don't listen to these guys! Everyone knows the stock Surf Board spoiler is best on our cars thats why GM put it there in the first place.

J/k Just trying to drum up support and Love for the Surf Board...lol

I should edit my original post to mention that the surfboard actually HINDERS performance at highway speeds. The air can't go around it smoothly in the back so it adds a little back pull harming the aerodynamics

I noticed in my switch to the 2006 spoiler, my car magically doesn't move as much do to wind on a highway. Also it just seems to be faster!

The surfboard by and far is BETTER then NO spoiler.

I am hoping to SOON change to a '06-'07 like Chibi did. No matter the year, I think the vertical spoiler is better looking.
