I like :

Riding along in my automobile
My baby beside me at the wheel
I stole a kiss at the turn of a mile
my curiosity running wild
crusin' and playin' the radio
with no particular place to go

Riding along in my automobile
I's anxious to tell her the way I feel
So I told her softly and sincere
and she leaned and whispered in my ear
cuddlin' more and drivin' slow
with no particular place to go

No particular place to go
So we parked way out on ko-ko-mo
The night was young and the moon was gold
So we both decided to take a stroll
Can you image the way I felt
I couldn't unfasten her safety belt

Riding along in my calaboose
Still trying to get her belt a-loose
all the way home I held a grudge
for the safety belt that wouldn't budge
Crusin' and playing the radio
with no particular place to go

We used to listen to the radio
And sing along with every song we'd know
We said someday we'd find out how if feels
To sing to more than just the steering wheel
~Nickelback

Welcome my son
Welcome to the machine
Where have you been?
It's alright we know where you've been

You've been in the pipeline
Filling in time
Provided with toys and scouting for boys
You bought a guitar to punish your ma
And you didn't like school
And you know you're nobody's fool

So welcome to the machine
~Pink Floyd

Well I can't stand what I'm starting to be
No, I can't stand the people that I'm starting to need
There's so much now that can go wrong
And I don't need nobody trying to help it along
~Rob Thomas

I am the damage
I am the relief
Sometimes I'm people
I never hoped that I would be
~Rob Thomas

The sweet smell of great sorrow lies over the land
Plumes of smoke rise and merge into the leaden sky
A man lies and dreams of green fields and rivers
But awakes to a morning with no reason for waking

He's haunted by the memory of a lost paradise
In his youth or in a dream, he can't be precise
He's chained forever to a world that's departed
It's not enough, it's not enough

His blood has frozen and curdled with fright
His knees have trembled, given way in the night
His hand has weakened at the moment of truth
His step has faltered

One world, one soul
Time pass, rivers roll

And he talks to the river of lost love and dedication
And silent replies that swirl invitation
Flow dark and troubled to an oily sea
A grim intimation of what is to be

There's an unceasing wind that blows through this night
There's dust in my eyes, that blinds my sight
And silence that speaks so much louder that words

Of promises broken

~Pink Floyd

When I was a child I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown the dream is gone
I have become comfortably numb

~Pink Floyd

Hi Greg,
Another great MCF Thread Topic
Thank `You
=========================
Below is one of my favorites
My grandfather would sing this song when we
we out @ sea with the Beach Bum's
-------------------------------------------------

Writer: LENNON, JOHN

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

"The Wilted Lettuce Orgy" by Steve Lyons. The ballad of an adulterous liaison between a family man and a salad fetishist.

Worth a mention for the line:
"They drove to her apartment in his Monte Carlo...."

Otherwise - this one is a recent fav. The part about getting away with it struck a chord for some reason. "nothing says freedom like getting away with it."

Guy Forsyth - Long long time

It's been a long, long, long, long,
long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, time.

When I was a kid, I used to draw airplanes, with stars and bars shooting down airplanes, adorned with hammers and sickles.
I bought a hundred water guns so I could save the world, saving my lunch money and stealing my father's quarters, dimes, and nickels.
I discovered religion watching Luke Skywalker rescue Princess Leia and destroying the Death Star by letting go and closing his eyes.
And I devoured comic books, Greek colored mythology books taught me right and wrong, and if you believe, you can fly.

It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.

I remember listening to songs about trains and feeling the rush of wonder at the possibility that the world was infinite and accessible all at the same time. And then it was songs about highways and born to be wild and little red corvette and the road went on forever in my mind.

But now it's clogged bumper to bumper with stinking SUVs and two-story pickup trucks that can drive over anything except the two-story pickup truck right in front of it.

Not even the highways look the same, Starbucks and 711s and Walmarts jam the feeder roads. We don't live around this mess, we live under it.

It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
Since I felt fine.

Now all the songs are about gangsters and guns and the TV speeds by at 100 deaths an hour and everyone wants to pull off the crime of the century.
Steal two hundred gazillion dollars, enough to buy myself an island and build a real honest-to-God train on it for noone but me.
And get away with it. Get away with it. We Americans are freedom-loving people and nothing says freedom like getting away with it.

We went from Billy the Kid to Richard Nixon, Enron, Exxon, O.J. Simpson...
We used to dream about heroes, but now it's just how to beat the system.
So where to we go to dream now? Up on the roof of the projects, straining through the city lights to see if they've built golden arches on the moon yet?

Self-medicated, pacifated, trying our best to stay distracted, living life according to the TV set.
Corporations owning nations, telling us "don't change the station, it's the only safe way to win the human race."
I wonder how the world sees us.
Rich beyond compare, powerful without equal, a spoiled, drunk, 15-year-old waving a gun in their face.

It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
It's been a long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.
Since I felt fine.

"Drop dead, a bullet to my head. Your words are like a gun in hand." Sum 41 - Still Waiting.

These have been strong lyrics for me because of how much words can actually hurt someone.

Not really anything that takes me back or hits close to home I just really like the song. It was the one of the first songs I heard from them that got me liking their music.
I'm sure I'll think of some better songs. I'll post if I come across any
Bad Company was born with a six gun. FFDP was born with a shotgun.
I suppose the revolver would be easier to wield for an infant, depending on caliber.

The first 'rap' I learned to do verbatim as a kid, courtesy of Zack de la Rocha:

Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells

Are you a dental floss rancher from Montana?

Gotta love Zappa...

The Mystery Man came over
An' he said: "I'm outa-site!"
He said, for a nominal service charge,
I could reach nirvana tonight
If I was ready, willing 'n able
To pay him his regular fee
Well, he would drop all the rest of his pressing affairs
And devote his attention to me
But I said...

Look here brother,
Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?
Well...Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris? Mud Shark!
Look here brother,
Don't you waste your time on me

The Mystery Man got nervous
An' he fidgeted around a bit
He reached in the pocket of his mystery robe
An' he whipped out a shaving kit
Now, I thought it was a razor
And a can of foamin' goo
But he told me right then when the top popped open
There was nothin' his box won't do
With the oil of Aphrodite
And the dust of the Grand Wazoo
He said "You might not believe this Mort, but it'll cure your crab cakes too!"
And I said...

Hey, look here Morty
Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?
Yes, indeed, who are you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?
Look here brother,
Don't you waste your time on me
Go man, go...

I've got troubles of my own, I said
And you can't help me out
So take your meditations and your preparations
An' ram it up your...
"BUT I GOT A CRYSTAL BALL!," he said
And held it to the light
So I snatched it
All away from him
And I showed him how to do it right

I wrapped a newspaper around my head
So I'd look like I was really deep
I said some mumbo jumbo then
And told him he was going to sleep
I robbed his rings and pocket watch
And everything else I found
I had that sucker hypnotized
He couldn't even make a sound
I proceeded to tell him his future then
As long as he was hanging around
I said...
"The price of meat has just gone up
and yer ol' lady has just gone down"

Look here brother,
Who you jivin' with that Cosmik Debris?
Now is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?
Or is it Bob Duffy's pants?
Don't you know, you could make more money as a butcher
So don't you waste your waste on me
