Some engines are manufactured with a special vacuum in them that allows them to pass california emissions. It's basically a way to pump air into the exhaust to fake emissions. I actually have this on my Monte (But I don't know if my Monte was sold CMI) It doesn't effect any performance in anyway, it's just something extra that GM uses to fake things. Not all engines have it, so maybe CMI just refers to that?
The 1980s Monte have/had a cold air pump that injected air into the exhaust.

So did my '83 2.2 Dodge Charger. Every so often the stupid thing would burn up and once again I was at the salvage yard trying to find a working one that would mount up to my engine.

I have no idea what these pumps are actually called? I always referred to them as a cold air pump and other people seemed to know what I ment.

maybe the A.I.R. injection system....my camaro has it..theres an air pump and lines that go into the exhaust manifolds to plumb fresh air into the exhaust system to reduce emissions..i cant wait till i get headers hehe

If you google cars and trucks on craigslist and cmi there are lots of different cars listed with it. Is this car at a dealer?

Maybe it means certified mechanic inspected? Have you emailed them to ask what CMI is yet.

the car was on e-bay for $2600 and now it seems to be gone? i sent e-mails for carfax and other info and received that but the last e-mail i sent hasn't been answered, so i'm guessing the car was sold!! which sucks for me, again!!!
