The closest thing I found is CMI Automotive, they manufacture plastics for vehicle interiors

I'm not 100% sure about this one but here is my educated guess.

Some engines are manufactured with a special vacuum in them that allows them to pass california emissions. It's basically a way to pump air into the exhaust to fake emissions. I actually have this on my Monte (But I don't know if my Monte was sold CMI) It doesn't effect any performance in anyway, it's just something extra that GM uses to fake things. Not all engines have it, so maybe CMI just refers to that?

That is a good guess Mike...you might be on to something...maybe in some weird way it just means California Emissions Legal, but why is it not CEL then? IDk, I say thats a good guess though Mike.

I thought all newer cars were sold from the factory 50 state emissions legal...

If I remember I'll take a picture of something under my hood that explains that it's hooked up for california...

Though my car was a custom order IDK why it got that... Found out though when I ripped the top-half of the engine haha

My car says California Emissions Legal right on that silver sticker by the air box that is attached to the frame...the one that has engine size and all that other good stuff...

Maybe all car do come CA emissions legal no matter where they are sold in the US, ans that is why your custom order car is still set up that way? IDK?

Like I said, I THOUGHT that all cars came ready for CA emission standards. What happens if you move to CA...the first thing you will have to do is smog your car before they let you register it...even if its new, and you bring it here to register it, you will have to smog it.

If you buy the car brand new hear, it does not need smog for the first 5 years, then its every other year after that....
