Smashed Chevy
Fellow MCFers... today I mourn the demise of a family member. The Corvette was put into a concrete wall this evening and will be in the shop indefinitely.
It was during a period of torrential downpour this evening. At least two inches of rain fell within the half hour. While traveling about 60 MPH on the freeway I hit an area of large amounts of standing water and began to hydroplane. The Corvette would not right and it went into the concrete barrier.
Insurance should cover everything, but Lola has to sit in the body shop cold and alone for a while.
The entire back right portion is shredded, and being fiberglass, will have to be completely replaced. The rear axle is also damaged beyond repair, you can see that the tire is bent out. The right muffler is detached, and some how the convertible top got ripped ???
No other damage seen at initial inspection, but I'm guessing it will run in the neighborhood of at least $5,000 to replace, probably more. I'll keep you guys updated on the repair process as I am informed.

From the looks of the pics its nothing a good glass man and some TLC cant fix.

Hey matt, at least your Ok....and at least the car can be fixed....
Just a suggestion, you insurance company has to have your car fixed anywhere you want it to be fixed....At least that is a California law, but I would guess Nevada is the same way....Therefore, I would look for a Chevy dealer in your area that has a full body shop, and force your insurance to get everything fixed at the Chevy dealer. Therefore you know you are getting nothing but genuine GM part for you Vette, and at least I would hope that the Chevy dealer would do top quality work!
Good luck with everything....At least you still have the Monte!

Thanks everyone for the concern and suggestions. I actually have a body place I use regularly. Can't really do anything until Monday. So I'll let everyone know how how everything is working out. Thanks again for the kind words

Geez Matt! Hope you're okay.
It always hurts to see a really nice car damaged like that. But like the others said, the important thing is the people in the car.
Hope you and the car are back to 100% very soon!
