Sinkhole Vette Restorations

Sinkhole Vette Restorations
I stumbled across news on this today so I thought I'd share. Should you need to be caught up to speed, you can refer to my original thread on the sinkhole and recovery of each of the cars > https://montecarloforum.com/forum/of...inkhole-47321/.
Out of the 8 Corvettes the sinkhole consumed, GM and Chevrolet had set on restoring 3 of them (2009 ZR1 "Blue Devil", 1992 1 Millionth, black 1962). Well, fourth quarter last year GM finished restoration of the first, "Blue Devil", which was performed in Michigan and took a 10 member team 6 weeks to complete. It was unveiled on Nov 4, 2014 in Las Vegas at SEMA and is now back at the Corvette Museum, still on loan from GM. "Blue Devil" began as an experimental Corvette in 2008 and is THE car in the early ZR1 press photos. It is also supposedly THE car displayed at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. It is a sister car to another that ran Nurburgring as a Z06/Z07.
- GM currently has in its possession the 1 Millionth which is undergoing an expected 6 month restoration. It is the worst damaged of the salvageable cars.
- The black 1962 is too old for GM to properly handle a restoration of so they will hand pick a restoration specialist team to do that one.
- The other 5 cars (1984 PPG Pace Car, 1993 40th Anniversary, 2001 Mallett Hammer Z06, 2009 1.5 Millionth, 1993 ZR-1 Spyder) are too wrecked to be restored so they are on permanent display as is at the Corvette Museum.
- Work to repair the sinkhole itself began Nov 10, 2014 and is expected to take 8 months. The Museum considered leaving the hole but ultimately decided to have it filled and repaired.

Yes, the white 1 Millionth pictured above is in GM's possession undergoing restoration as we speak. The black 1962 will be restored also but by a restoration team outside GM. The other 5 are too wrecked so they will remain on permanent display in their recovered state at the Corvette Museum.

Those Sink holes are freaky, I hope we all never have to experience one.
But the White one will be difficult to Buff out. lol
The Blue one looks great I hope they can get the remainder of then restored. The Corvette is such an I-CON . Maybe someday I will have one for my own, Thanks for the great pictures.
