Should cars be made to go over 100+MPH ?

What I hate even worse is when I see someone holding the phone on their steering wheel and texting while driving.
As for the speeding, I'll admit that I drive over 80mph atleast once a month and the least. Interstate and I normally drive 85-90, and I'm almost never the only one, hell, when I went home this weekend I was passed by an Eclipse doing probably just over 100 on the highway going towards the interstate. They proved to be great bait as they had SD plates so I knew they were going the same way I was, atleast until Lusk, WY, they got nabbed for 40 in a 30 just as we got into town.
Now I'll speed on the interstate and highway if there isn't much traffic, which is pretty much all the time in Wyoming.
But speeding through town? Not a good idea, too many people around.
Yes they should be made to go 100 mph.2 things no onementioned in all the carnage out on the roads are drunk driving and people that don't MAINTAIN a speed limit. You all know what I'm talking about, people speeding up and slowing down for no reason.
Another thing that causes a lot of accidents are the morons that speed up as you go to pass them, that burns my butt like nothing else. For the record, I rarely go faster than 80 mph on the freeway on a regular basis, and only rarely on back country roads. Too many deer around my neck of the woods for that.
Not that I have never gone over 100 mph. True story, the day I got my SS I was driving home and took the Ohio Turnpike, because they had construction on I-90. When some yahoo got into the 4th (outside lane) and rode right next to me (and pinned me in, there was someone in front of me) for over 10 miles. He kept his speed right with mine, so I couldn't pass and couldn't get the clown in front of me to move over. Remember, he's driving in the passing lane. When I finally got an opening I nailed it and passed the guy in front to get away from this guy that had pinned me in forever.
Ihad just got the car and was driving itmyself for the first time, and when I looked down I was like [sm=yikesomg.gif]HOLY CRAP! I was doing 110, and thought I was going 85 max, it was that smooth and fast. So you have to understand, if I'm on the interstate with no one around, I might nail it, you know, to blow the carbon out, yeah, that's it, that's what I'm doing!

you cant plan for everything thats going to happen in life, sometimes you simply need to speed.. emergencies do happen
in my case when i leave the clubs from east st louis over here.. i hit up our hwy 70 which has a speed limit of 55 but most of the people do 90+ especially at night to be honest i hit the max my car can do until the limiter kicks in which is the 110 area... considering there is never any cops or any traffic on this highway early in the morning
if youre in the left lane (the passing lane) going the speed limit and you see me flying up behind you... regardless of what you think is going on you should move over.. what is the point of holding me up? are you a cop? no... i find it extremely ignorant to block me from passing you in the PASSING LANE... i myself have no problem if you want to go 20 under the speed limit or do the speed limit
regardless if you move over or not though... depending on the highway/road and the visibility and traffic im going to pass you regardless... so yes i believe cars should be made to go over 100+

It really isn't the speeding that can be the problem on the interstates though. It's when traffic in one lane is doing 85 and the other is doing 65 and then the driver in the 65 switches lanes but doesn't hit the throttle forcing everyone to do a brake check.
I just don't see the reason. I think they should be capped at 80 and be done with it.

well i can completly understand both sides... personally, i see no need for 100 mph+.. but i've done it... more than once. teenage immaturity
hey, we all go to be immature teenagers at one point in our lives right?
But I ride on roads alot with my dad... it's not the cars going fast that cause accidents. It's the cars going slow. When was the last time a car doing 100 mph getting in your way, causing you to hit your brakes, and force you to pass and make a lane change? Never, unless you were doing 125.
My point is that the people causing accidnets are those goign 50-55 on a 65-70 mph interstate. They are the ones causing these accidents. Hillary Clinton tends to be too ignorant to realize this (she is pushing for a "Drive 55 law"). See, slower cars force those goign the speed limit to slow down, wiat for an opportunity, drop out pass, and move back over. This sounds simple enough. One car may have to wait a few seconds to this. If there are a lot of cars, it will take while. Traffic will bottle up. Drivers will run out of patience. Peopel will begin acting stupid. An accident is brewing.
Why did this accidnet happen? Someone couldn't drive fast enough. Yes, drivers speeding can kill people. It is flat out ridiculous to drive 100 mph. I'm fully aware. I do it for fun sometimes. The people the cops really need to pull over are those driving too slow.
I'm not trying to justify going fast. As a matter of fact, for most purposes (except the post dire of emergencys), I see absoultly no need to go over about 85 mph. I rarelly go 5 over the limit.
And about "going over 100 mph" being a right, it's not. You have the right to do whatever you please until you infringe on the rights of others. By doing 100 mph, I think you're endangering the lives of others and yoursefl.

We already have rev limiters in most cars.A lot oftransport trucks have speed limiters.
That is one of the problems on highways. The transports with the limiters essentially become rolling road blocks when combined with a slower driver.
Putting a speed limiter on all cars is just going to increase sales of the aftermarket programmers already in widespread use by a lot of car enthusiasts. It would also just be yet one more control taken away from the driver.
Case in point... when you compare a 6th/7th gen Monte to a Monte from the 70's and 80's. There's so many things in the 2000+ Monte's that the car "allows" you to do when the car feels like letting you. Like turning on your fog lights, or using re-circulated air in the passenger compartmentfor example. The car only allows you to use re-circ'ed air for a set number of minutes, then the car automatically reverts back to fresh air. Stuff like that.
Speed limiters is just one more decision taken away from the driver. Besides, correct me if I'm wrong. But wasn't the reason the speed limits were lowered to 55mph decades ago, done because of the fuel crisis and the illusion of safety? I think this may end up happening again.

well i mentioned it earlier somewhere Taz.. the "illuzion of safety"
When Colorado, Wyoming, some other statesraised there limits to 75, the Federal Government freakedand said there would be so many more accidents. The opposite happened. There were less accidents. People are more alert at higherspeeds.
One thing that needs to go is splitspeed limits for cars and trucks. Trucks cause accidents because they're going 55 when everybody elseis oging 65-70. This causes traffic jams trying to get around them. Let them go as fast as everyone else and all will be swell. Look to the southeast if you want proof of this.Thats partially why my daddoesn't like leaving the southeast anymore. And lane restrictions.. don't get me started. But in my opinoin, the far left lane shoudl be used by those going straight through, not the guy about to get off in a few miles. Trucks are stuck in the right two lanes while cars go where they want. That's flat out unfair.

I like this article about variable speed limits, sure it will be a pain in the *** for those of use who learned to drive in blizzards and know what a safe speed for us is, but it would certainly help those drivers that come to the state thinking about the cowboys and indians and end up on a freeway in which they can't see three car lengths ahead of themselves and still try to go 75...

And I agree with Duane on the split speeds for trucks and cars, Wyoming doesn't do it, but the first thing that the cop told us when he came into drivers ed oh so long ago was that speeding isn't dangerous, it's differences in speed. If you and everyone else are speeding, general rule being 85%, than those that are being unsafe are those driving the speed limit, and the cop told us that if we end up in a situation where everyone is driving 75 on a highway and we don't feel comfortable, to just pull over and let everyone by.
He also said that if the majority of people are speeding then those driving the speed limit are likely to be pulled over for endangering the majority of the drivers, and the speeders can wiz pass the parked HP with no problems.

I like variable speed limits. They don't always restrict you.. as a matter of fact, when conditions are good and traffic is light, they'll let you go pretty fast. You don't have to worry about a ticket sometimes..everywhere I've seen variable speed limits, they work, and I like them.

"WIND
11.1 General Description
Wyoming is windy and during the winter there are frequent periods when the wind reaches 30 to 40 mph with gusts of 50 or 60 mph (ranks 1st in the US with an annual average wind speed of 12.9 mph). This status has created a humorous notoriety for the state (Figure 11.1). Prevailing wind direction varies from west-southwest through west to northwest and is somewhat determined by local terrain. In many localities, winds are so strong and constant from those directions that trees show a definite lean towards the east. Many wind farms have been established over southern Wyoming in places such as Arlington89, Medicine Bow, Rock River, near Evanston, and just south of Cheyenne in order to take advantage of this important renewable energy resource.
