Default Saw a Deloreon today...

I was headed through Raleigh on my way to college and saw a Deloreon, just like in Back to the Future, going up on the old Jerr Dan....

Got to thinking... I've seen 3 Deloreans in my life. One was at a car show, the other two were on rollbacks.

Has anyone ever seen a Deloreon actually rolling down a highway? I never have. They were always stopped or on a rollback. They do 0-60 in whatever the diesel engine pulling them can....

There used to be two of them rolling around here all the time a few years back. I haven't seen them in a while. One had a v8 stuffed in it if I remember.Didn't sound or run very good. The other one was a really nice running car owned by a older guy who bought it new.

Surprisingly, I've seen a few driving around. It's rare, but I see them. All I know is I WILL own one someday. I don't care if it takes the rest of time just to get it to 60mph, I will gladly own one :P

What we have learned: Deloreans run when they don't have Delorean technology under the hood.

There's one near my house. The family have it outside, in the drive way and it's NEVER moved. Been there at least since I was in middle school.

Ah yes...the Delorean. It was the only car I know of that came from the factory with 'snow' tires, straw holders and the rear view mirror mounted horizontal.

Actually, the engine was built by Peugeot.

There's one around here I see (on the road) from time to time. It appears to be in fairly good condition but I've never been close enough to examin it in detail.

- What we call a DeLorean is actually a DMC-12 (12 attempt at the car that finally made it into production from the DeLorean Motor Company).
- There are two gold plated ones that were used for a JC Penney's catalog cover.
Some were painted from the factory to see if it attracted more buyers (people bored of the stainless look). I actually saw a factory red painted DeLorean.
- As I understand, most the mechanics of the Delorean are Volvo based (could be incorrect, but something I read somewhere).
- I never noticed, but I heard the speedo on a DeLorean goes to 80 MPH, hence why Doc Brown had a custom digital display.
- The founder of DMC (I believe John DeLorean) was a GM employee for many years. He was the one who came up with the idea for a GTO by basically throwing a v8 into a Pontiac Tempest.

Just some DMC info I've read over the years. I will not attest to the info being 100% accurate.
