x's 2. I agree with MIKE. Never hit the brakes for little critters. Just glad your OK. Everything can be replaced. YOU CAN"T.

Oh my God....we're so glad your okay even if the Monte isn't. That's truly a heartbreaking event, but I believe you were right to think someone decided it was your time. God bless.

Been there for sure! 2 winters ago the mrs and I were towing our sleds up to Kalkaska! (near traverse city) and there were 3 other vehicles in front of us towing there sleds as well. A deer jumped out in the road in front of them..They all jammed the brakes and tried to swerve out of the way..with no success and all 3 vehicles sleds and all were splattered all over the road and off....Just when we thought we were gonna miss it all.

A friggn deer jumped in front of us! I said screw it and nailed the gas...thinking worse case senario I wreck my truck!...Suddenly it grew SPRINGS! and ended up jumping over the hood and as we narrowly missed all the havoc in front of us....Good thing we kept our distance from the others before us...What a mess..Thank god ev1 was ok....Did I mention our hearts were in our throats?

Srry bout the Monte....
Just glad your ok...!!!!

When I took driver's ed (what feels like forever ago), they said unless it's something like a deer or a moose, thump may have to be thumped. The instructor basically said what Chibi said, don't swerve, you could end up injurying you. Only reason to take different action (when safely possible) for a deer or a moose or a large animal is to save yourself from injuries resulting form that animal.

I have hit the brakes for critters running out infront of me, but BEFORE I do, I know how muchdistance is between me and the people behind me (not looking to brake check other people for a critter).

In this case, at least it's a car that was damaged and nothing worse.
