If it's an '04, mostly likely you cannot do it yourself if you don't have the code. And since it came out of a different vehicle, even if you had the previous code, it probably won't work. Those radios work with the vin# on your vehicle somehow and the code is not retrievable through pushing some buttons like the older versions.
Hundred dollar bill to have dealer hook it to a TECH II and unlock it.

the computer doesnt just control your radio...it monitors and controls thousands of parameters. i know the two cars are very similar but i doubt that everything is the same

If it's "locked" and you don't have the code to unlock it, using the Impala's computer won't help, you'll still need the Tech II to get it unlocked.

this is a very easy fix.

1:set radio on hard surface such as a metal bench, or concrete.
2:find a whuppin stick
3:find a rock
4:find some vaccum hose
5:carefully tie rock to whuppin stick with vaccum hose
6:beat the livin tar out of the radio
7:make sure to get it all on video

Default radio is locked.......!

Yeah this is an old thread but I guessed to see if someone else had this problem.
My radio is locked. I whent to Target after going to a indoor Car Show (pics coming). When I got back to my car the Radio was locked !
Now, there was,.....a 2010 Camaro parked across from me ( both away from other cars ) and it was gone when I got back. Could the remote from that car have messed up my radio ?
Do I have to take it to a dealer ?

Thanks.
