in my mind, everyone needs one of these, yes I am very serious about this, no bs.

You guys need to move to a better neighborhood if you need a Carbine Rifle for self defense against a large group of people!! Good gracious, lol!
I'm sounding like one of those liberal anti-gun people.... I'm all for your rights to have guns though, if you feel that you need them and want to have them, then by all means have them. This is more of just my personal philosophy, which I do not want the government to impose, but if you need something like that for anything more than just novelty item or in a gun collection, then you need to move to a better neighborhood.... or move away from the graveyard.
then you need to move to a better neighborhood
As far as using a rifle for self-defense- I know a lot of people live by the thought that if you're at home and under attack, that your pistol should be used to fight your way to your main rifle since that is a more potent weapon (typically better at penetrating, especially if the attacker has a lot of heavy clothes or body armor- and more ammo capacity).
I hope to never use any of my guns, for self defense. I live in a safe town, but meth makes people crazy. A good example of bad things happening in safe areas was the massacre in Amish Country. A shot gun has six rounds typically, two guys on meth busting down your door, can take a lot of lead before they stay down. 30 rounds from my AR will do some serious damage. Hopefully never have to use it, but prepared if I do.
Dang, I didn't know burglars these days wore body armor when doing break ins!
Don't get me wrong, a pistol is a great defense weapon when you have no other option (ie conceal carry)- but would you really try to hunt something like a tiger or a bear with a normal household pistol (ie not a .500 s&w revolver)- obvious a person isn't that resilient to being shot, but it still can boil down to a life or death struggle, where I'd rather have more firepower than needed- rather hoping I've got enough.
