photos of one of our 56 chevys
one of mine was just like the rag top but it was the hard top version of it ,
the last one i had was a 4dr bel, feel bad for selling it to the idiot i did he has basically destroyed the car, it was a complete car down to the rad,cap he had a web site till he was sued for stealing parts from places, he saiad the new tail lights he bought were cracked and they wernt. but he made a hige deal out of it and put it on th web site to "expose a crook" yeha right they guy told him to send them back he would replace defective parts. well lon to the short he was sued for slander.
menwhliel my car has been modiffey so much it is not even a real 56 any more.
this car was all bone stock. everything was there for the car. he took it apart and changed the motor to a 350 turbo and took the motor out for a 305. i guess to each thier own. Just wished i would have kept it from him.

here ya go R.J. one of the 56 chevy's that i have owned. this is the one that had power windos,[ower brakes, the whole delux int. and even had a padded dash in it. in stead of the steel version you normaly see in them .
also had a 2 speed power slide with a265 V-8 in it that was the high out put for that year i think it had a extra 20 h.p. dont sound like much belive me it was for that year of a car.
all it was is a diffrent air cleaner on it and also a diffrent Carb. and intake combo.
also think it might have had a diffrent cam but nothing to fancy.
when i bought htis car the only thing that was wrong with it other thent he cheezy tint ya see in this photo was that the tranny mounts were broke so i had to replace them. other then that it would ride and drive perfect.

Mickey,
That is one solid looking BelAir 4-door Sedan.
People used to tell me, "Part that 4-door." referring to mine. I knew she was TOO original to do it to. So I'd laugh at them as I ignored them.
I've got a car bud who owns a black '57 Belair Hardtop. This car wins trophies just driving down the street. But his car isn't a fraction as original as my 4-door is. And he's told me he wished his car was.
He may have a car with a southern body, but his carcame from the factory Highland Green, a 235 6 cylinder and a powerglide transmission. Infact I saw his car before he even owned it. I went to the salvage yard one afternoon after school in feb, 1974 to buy parts for my first car. There sat his car painted maroon with all black interior and the guy he bought it from was telling me how he'd just pulling it up to Ohio from Georgia.
My 4-door Sedan was sold new in my home town and the farthest it's ever been was Denver, CO in 1958 on a family vacation.
I paid $100 for her with 45,000 original miles on her stock 283 and drove her home. I've dated in my 4-door, raced a few people, and done some "Other" things in it as well.

ya know i have owned one of almost every body style between myself my dad and my uncel. weach of us have our FAv. I tend to like the 56 dad is defently the 57 and uncel is the 55 .
but i have seen folks part out 4dr. cars tha twere almost prestine. somethign i would have never even thought of doing,
the only time we even think f parting out a car is if the body is pretty much gone and the floors are gone etc... it has to be in pretty bad shape for us to think of it.
But we have owned 2dr. ht. 4dr. 4dr Hardt tops even and the rag tops.
i dont think i have seen but two since i was 12 years old actually get completly boned out from us.
Now we have had some that we have done a custom job on so we basically took all the org. parts off those cars so we could use them on the other cars etc... but this was knowing that this car was not ever goign to see a stock condition ever again.
we even went as far as to paint on emblems on one of the 55's i helped on . looked sharp just nto wha ti would have done.

I personally have parted two '57s.
One was a BelAir Hardtop I bought for $25 and they brought it to my house. No engine/trans or interior to speak of. My parents made me get the car out of the drive way. So I asked a guy in the local Classic Chevy club we used to have if I could take it to his dad's farm? While it sat there other members of the club went over and helped themselves to parts off of it. What was left wasn't worth saving. Thenthis guys dad started harrassing me to get it off his farm. A guy I was bailing hay for helped me take it to the salvage yard.
I did part out a one-owner 4-door Sedan. It was bought new by the guy who used to be myneighbor's uncle. Thisman bought a car every 10 years. When I met him he owned a 1927, 37, 47, 57, 67, ,77 Chevies and was getting ready to buy a 1987 Chevy. He said he was selling one car to buy the '87 so he sold the '57 to his neohew who sold it to me for $125.
It was okay but it'd spent all it's life on a farm and was rusted pretty back on the lower half ofthe car. They'd fixed it once or twice but it was starting to rust out again. Infact the entire front floor was goen. They pulled the front seat out. screwed in pieces of plywood and put the seat back in.
If there were as many aftermarket parts for a '57 Chevy as there is today but back thenI'd have saved the car.

Ahhh, the good ol' days that I don't remember [8D]
I really wish I could have lived back then. I know that there was the problem with the russians and stuff, but we have to worry about terrorism now. And besides, back then you didn't have to worry about your car getting 10 mpg. You didn't NEED a/c or cruise. You drove...just because. Just to relax. Go for a Sunday cruise. I've always like carbs more than fuel injection anyway. You can "feel" the vehicle more.
I hope that made some sense, I was rambling a bit.
