the obituary to common sense
I would first like to let you all know I did NOT write this, instead heard it on the radio over 10 years ago and emailed the dj saying I wanted a copy of it and just found it while cleaning out my inbox the other day.
Remember to weigh in and lemme know what you guys all think about this. I personally believe it still holds true today.
Today we mourn the passing of an old friend, by the name of Common Sense. Common Sense lived a long life but died recently in the United States (and the whole world for that matter). No one really knows how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, factories helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness.
For decades petty rules silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to Subject:
Know when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (Don't spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it's okay to come in second.
A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including body piercing, whole language, and "new math."
But his health declined when he became infected with the "If-it-only-helps-one-person-it's-worth-it" virus. In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of well intentioned but overbearing regulations. He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition.
It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but could not inform the parent when a female student was pregnant or wanted an abortion.
Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from the Boy Scouts to professional sports.
Finally, when people, too stupid to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, were awarded a huge settlement, Common Sense threw in the towel. As the end neared, Common Sense drifted in and out of logic but was kept informed of developments regarding questionable regulations such as those for low flow toilets, rocking chairs, and stepladders. Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers: My Rights, and Ima Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

"It's so sad , but so `True"
The Death of Common Sense: How Law is Suffocating America
Random House, 1995
America is drowning: in law, legality, bureaucratic process. Abandoning our common sense and individual sense of responsibility, we live in terror of the law, in awe of procedure, at war with one another. Philip K. Howard has written the explosive manifesto for liberation – one of the most talked about sociopolitical treatises of our time. Citing dozens of examples of bureaucratic overkill – everything from the labeling of window cleaner as a toxic substance to the U.S. Department of Defense spending $2 billion on travel and $2.2 billion processing the paperwork for that travel – The Death of Common Sense shows how far we have wandered, how we got into this mess, and how we can – and must – get out

"Sometimes, or many times you did not know that you were breaking the law, until you get caught for it"
...Sorry Officer, I did not know it was a violation
..Well, You are under arrest & are going to jail
Ignorance of the law is not Excuse
So `if that is correct, everyone needs to know every law/rules/regulations in their country
Were you taught all the laws in school ? By your parents/teachers/mentor's ? (I was not)
I guess `if you want to obey all the laws, then one should be enrolled in law school for `life or risk being arrested ...get that space alien now....
My grandfather & mentor's kept it simple & taught me that `if my acts were hurting myself or others then I was breaking the human laws and should be punished for any violations...
That's it.......
Do you know all the laws of your country ? I just think there's 2 many laws for everyone to know & obey....
What do you think ?
"I think, therefore ~ I am ~> I think"
