Matt, they got the right direction going, I believe, as far as the new tech' engines. The VVT and SIDI are GREAT new tech's that need to be refined and worked on some, not only by OE, but also aftermarket.. Here's my example: We have an '07 Solstice GXP 2.0 L with the VVT, SIDI, AND a turbo. She was 260 hp from the factory, but with a couple of bolt ons (exhaust, intake, and a more efficient intercooler) and a tune, we got 350 HP, and others are around 400 hp.......from a TWO LITER!!!

Now, get with me here, what if they took THAT engine and doubled it. Turn THAT engine into a 4.0L V8. Twin turbos. Good stuff right from the factory. 700 HP from a 4.0L 7,000 rpm beast! At the MIS race 2 weeks ago, they had on display the 2.2 L dragEcotec engine....1,250 HP! Single turbo. They've been putting turbos on engines for YEARS, and superchargers, too. BOOST that 3.6 L Turn it up a little What about the new L99 in the Camaro? Same technology in that engine. And MAST is marketing new cams for it. I'm sure there are people all ready putting twin turbos on that engine RIGHT NOW!

I swore I'd never buy another 4 banger as long as I lived. Underpowered little turds. NOW we are driving a THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY HORSEPOWER little street rocket.

The new Camaro, as much as I bash it (I'm not the only one. Read a recent Hot Rod magazine article about it), even the V6 version will trounce most all of the old school factory stock muscle cars from the 60's and 70's. Not many STOCK cars from then were into the 12's. Now it's the standard. Put on a simple blower or turbo, and your deep into the 11's, pushing for the 10's!

HAIL TO THE NEW AUTOMOTIVE ENGINE DESIGNERS! Long live the V8!
Boost is a GREAT thing!

what saddens me is that Pontiac Motor Division invented the muscle car. a big motor into a midsize car, 1964. but they were the first to get the ax? up is down, black is white, and the whole world is running backwards. I will miss the tin Indian.

Cadillac, Cadillac, wish I had my money back. should have bought a Pontiac.

Wayne, great post. Looks like you and I are on the same page. A high output, high reving 4.0L V8 would be awesome in any car. I didnt know that the 2.0 in the solstices was direct injected. Thats real cool, makes me like them even more. Wow, 350hp in a solstice would be intense. Im glad GM is dabling in the new technology. Like you said, I hope they take time to develope and refine this technology. I would rather see it perfected and used 5 years down the road then thrown in a vehichle now and it have major problems. I think that would just about kill GMs image.
