Default New Tires

I'm considering buying new tires for my '86 Monte.

I have the Firestone Firehawk SS-20 tires on the car right now. They were installed june, 2000. So this coming june they will be on there 12 years.

The tires have zero wear to them. Infact they've been SSuper tires. That one of the main reasons I bought them. Cause they have "SS" as part of their name.

Tires size is 215/70/14. I wouldn't mind a wider tire but the same height. For instance a 225/60/14.

I know I'll probably go with the Firstone Indy tire. Cause it's more or less the Firehawk tire.

With tire manufacturers phasing all smaller size tires out, buying now may be the smart part of doing this.

I love these. Probably my favorite raised white letter tire. I'd put them on the Pace Car if they made them in my size. I had them on an '83 S-10 once and they looked so sharp.

I wouldn't put Firestone tires on a wheel barrow. I don't know anybody that has run that brand and been happy with them. They are also the tire brand that was involved with the Ford Explorer rollover controversy. Ford blamed Firestone and Firestone blamed Ford.
On my daily drivers I run Michelin tires. On the toys I like the classic B.F. Goodrich T/A radial with the raised white letters.

I always liked the way a 60/14 looked on a car. My buddy had some on his 65 Impala on steel rims and they looked cool. I like bf Goodrich tires too but if Firestone tires lasted you well I say go with that.

I too remember the Firestone/Furd issue. The jerks refused to replace all 4 Firestone tires on my sister's '93 Explorer, only replacing 2 of the tires she had. Legally, I do not see how they figured they could get away with it? But they did it.

AS for the 4 Firehawk SS-20 tires I have. They have been 4 of the best tires I've ever owned.

BFG T/A radials are a super tire. BUT........ I am resistant to use them. Because I have the T/A radial on 3 of my '57s. I prefer that all of my cars NOT look the same. If you can understand my view point.

I know the '80s SS Montes came with a 15 inch tire on them. In a size that I believe was a 60 series tire. I love the look of the SS Monte G-body.

There's a thought. Buy 4 stock SS wheels from Mike's Monte and put them on my '86 LS Monte.

I too would never run Firestones.....with all there issues of the past...
I guess IRL has no choice since they sponsor the series....
(indy raceing league)

But im good with the BFG T/A's

But mine came with the GoodYear RSA's....I like the look and the mileage i get from them....Put over 100,000 on mine before i had to replace them..

But all my "Old School" hot rods all had the BFG T/A's....
