Never thought I'd say this...
I've owned both a GTP and a supercharged monte and I really prefer my 05 Monte over my 2000 GTP - I just like the interior better and in my opinion the leather Monte seats were much more comfortable than the GTP seats.
JW, I really like what you've done 2 your Mustang...It's a great looking car 4-Sure...
I'd get what makes you happy & that you can afford ? A Monte, a GP or a VW...
Good Luck on whatever you decide ? Let us know OK...

I spoke with the girl today on the red GTP coupe, its got 160k miles with 30,000 on a freshly rebuilt motor. Its got black leather interior with all the options. Gonna go check it out tomorrow, may even come home with a new car.
Yup, her Dad apparently is a mechanic and does all the work himself. She said the only things that are wrong is sometimes you gotta play with the window switch to get it back up (not a big deal at all), and it leaks VERY LITTLE power steering fluid. Has Bose sound package as well :P
It's all cool Duane. Just remember if you dish it you have to be able to take it too. To be honest we have to research this. I don't have the time or energy to research these number so I will generalize. For every Mopar that Chrysler sold GM sold fifty and Ford sold twenty. So just because of the numbers there will always be more GM and Fords. I'm not sure that Chrysler should have ever been chacterized as one of the big three because they never sold the same volume of cars. Now being the resident NASCAR guru you will have to admit that when Chrysler was fully funded as they were in the sixties and early seventies both GM and Ford were always playing catch up. The only reason Richard Petty ever drove a Torino was because Plymouth wouldn't give him a Charger Daytona. The same holds true on the drag tracks all across the country during the same time period. Even today most of the top fuel dragsters still use a Chrysler designed big block hemi. When Chrysler comes up with something innovative General Motors and Ford usually play catch up. The last example was the minivan in 84. It is also the Mopars that bring the big dollars at the auction today.
This include how Ford won 7 consecutive manufacturers championships from '63 to '69? Playing catch up?
The Dodge's were good cars til they rusted out too!
I've never seen the sales figures on them. I know they had the best advertisements on TV by a long shot.Mopars bring big dollars because they're rare too. I've seen a lot of GM's bring a lot of dollars though.

There are some Fords and Chevy's that bring big dollars at auction but they don't come close to what some of the Mopar iron is fetching.
When I worked in the salvage yards up north it seemed that the big three fell into these catagories from 1960 thru 1990. When a Mopar came in it still ran like a top. The body was rusted where it would not pass the state inspection. When a Ford came in it was rusty too but not as bad as the Mopar. The interiors were toast and either the engine or transmission was toast. When a GM car came in it wasn't usually rusted that bad, had a decent interior, and both the engine and tranny were toast. Back then if a yard tried to operate selling only Mopar parts, they would starve. We made most of our parts sales selling GM parts.
I would have to look up the NASCAR championship records to see who won the manufacturer championship each year because I don't know. I do know that Richard Petty won 7 championships mostly driving Mopars. I know that Chevrolet and Ford both petitioned Bill France on more than one occasion to change the rules because they couldn't keep up with a Dodge or Plymouth. This is the reason there never was a 71 Plymouth Roadrunner Superbird. The car was almost done before Chrysler pulled the plug on it because there was no point in building and homulgating a car they couldn't race. It was also the reason the race hemi went away. It is also the reason that Richard Petty went drag racing in 1965 instead of NASCAR racing. Chrysler boycotted NASCAR because of rules changes that supported FORD and GM and penalized Mopar.
Just as a side note: Lee Ioccoca is the father of the Mustang for Ford which was a huge success. He was also the father of the minivan over at Chrysler. Lee had pitched the idea at Ford to Henry Ford the second or third, I don't recall which one. Lee and Henry didn't get along and Henry Fired Lee as president at Ford. Ford could have dominated the minivan market.

I understand that the subject of a thread can go off topic, but I don't see any harm that was done by the additional information on a automotive topic by other super member's of our forum...
In the future `if you have a problem(s), please contact one of the MCF Moderator's...
We are here to keep the peace, or remove those that don't....Thank You!
