Default My Torino runs Martinsville Speedway!!!!

Basically, the deal was for NASCAR Day Car Wash benefiting for children, and it was $10. I found out about this on Thursday night when someone on my mom's weight watcher forums came up and mentioned that several tracks across the country were doing this program where if you got a car wash, you got some laps around the track. So, without much to do this particular Friday, I fired up my Torino, and my parents tagged along for the ride and we made the 110 mile trip to Martinsville Speedway with the '68 Torino!!!!

And yes, I did let someone else wash my Torino... I'm not the kind of guy who believes I'm the only one who knows how to do it. I did keep a close eye on the people washing it though. My dad took a lot of pictures as they washed the car in the infield of Martinsville Speedway!!!! They actually did a very good job!

Front stretch grandstands

The Sprint Vision Screen

The grandstands where I sat last year at Martinsville....

I did help them dry it...

Hard to see... but hte Torino is pulling onto the track here....

Coming down the front straightaway....

Heading into turn 1...

Turn 3....

Back on the front stretch...

Pulling up to the start finish for a picture...

And some videos... this first one is 2 laps, and then we stopped at the finish line. The second video is the last trip around the track before pulling off the track and going home...

It sounded a lot louder and felt a lot faster in the car.. the camera microphone won't pick up sounds but to a certain point, so it drones out the engine.....

And about how "slow" I went... well, if you spent the time working on the car I did, you wouldn't want to go put it into the Safer barrier either...

I ran about 25-30 through the corners.... about 55-60 on the straightaways....

Very Cool!

"So what did you do today Duane?"

"Oh, not much. Went down to Martinsville, got a carwash and ran a few laps around the track."

Default Sweeet !

Sweeeet !
I bet that was pretty awesome. I want to do a Charity Lap event at TMS in Dallas/Ft Worth. They offer them twice a year. It benifits the Childrens Hospital down there. I think ?

Definitely looks like a great time for sure, lotsa great shots.

A few years ago I was invited to MiS (Montes @ Michigan International Speedway) with a 10 hour drive I really didn't plan on going, but someone talked me into it, and I'm glad I did...I HIGHLY recommend if anyone has the oppurtunity to run at a nascar track that they take advantage of it!

Again looks like a great time, Thanks for posting!

Yeah, I tried to go to MIS and was planning to go the year they cut it off. I don't think a 2 mile track at 75 mph woudl be quite as unnerving as the short track was... that wall coming at you is one thing... but since you're accelerating, it's not only coming, but it's coming at a faster rate as it gets closer... plus, the Martinsville turns are unnerving too. Martinsville is much more banked than it looks.. .12 degrees I think. Looks flatter than a pancake on the tv set though. Michigan may be a bit unnerving too... can't say since I haven't run it.
