Thumbs up My interesting and fun weekend.

I took a 3-day weekend this weekend to get some work done on the Monte and attempt to get it inspected.

I am happy to report that after I swapped my brakes and rotors (cheap brakemotive crap rotors went bad for NO REASON) I was able to get the Monte inspected!! I can now legally drive it haha.

I'm still going to save up some money and take it to a body shop before I start the turbo build. I want to see how bad the rust is, I want to get this fixed, because a unibody in bad shape now... won't enjoy having boost...

On Saturday, my brother-in-law and my sister came over. I was inside the house, and all of a sudden I hear a very loud ROAR of a v8... besides his truck they don't own a vehicle that should sound like that... SO I opened the front door and what do I see?

My brother-in-law got a 68 CAMARO!!! Needs work, but that's why he got it. We went for a drive, enjoyed the beautiful weekend, and we already fixed a couple things that were wrong with it.

This put my Dad into complete nostalgia mood. As you guys may or may not know, me and my Dad are currently saving up for our own classic car project. After seeing this Camaro, we decided to really look, see if we can nail anything in our current price range.

We found one. No we did not purchase one yet, we just simply found a suitable car. We are going to check it out sometime soon I hope. It is about 5 hours away (from my parents) so it's almost 8 hours away from me. I might opt into NOT going, because it might be a weekday and I need my vacation days. But my bro-in-law and my Dad will probably make the trip soon.

It's a 68 Camaro Convertible. Blue with a ruined interior (which I'm happy about, because I will probably persuade a white vinyl interior instead of the blue).

(might actually be ours ) I'll update you guys if we decide to get it. It's not an SS, but it is a convertible. My Dad really REALLY wants an SS Convertible. But if this car is in the shape that the owner claims, we might just make a fake SS from it. We don't plan on keeping it original, we don't want a class-winner, we just want to resto-mod a Camaro and enjoy it.

There's a few of my updates from the weekend. I'm very excited as to what may come. If we don't like this blue one, we are just saving up more and more money and that will open up a lot more options for us

Thanks guys. I hope the car checks out to be as good looking in person.

I'm not holding my breath, we have been saving up for this project for almost 2 years now. I can wait a little longer if need be.

Hi Mike: Nice weekend for you. Ok i've been in the classic car thing for a while. And have learned a few things I'd like to share with you. 1st don't jump at the 1st car that comes up ( PLEASE)! Go to the Camaro site its HUGE! There is where you'll find a lot of info on a car you'll want. 2nd, the term FAKE SS sends chills down my spine and makes other Chevy owners hair on the back of their neck stand up Grrr. Hate that term. Now a car thats not a true SS can be a TRIBUTE CAR . Then you build it your way. another thing about the interior. White doesn't stay white for long. It starts to turn yellow and is very hard to keep clean. Don't ask me how I know . Also there's ton's of catalogs on your car from OPG. "Original parts group and others. Mike if you look up your local Camaro club on line. You'll find a lot of info & parts cheaper, and the Know how. Cars for $ale, interiors for sale things like that. Its a great adventure you & your dad are getting into. All i'm trying to do is send you a helping hand. It doesn't happend over night. And it takes some ca$h. That I do know for sure! Wish you all the luck and FUN you can have on this. Don't get me wrong Mike. I'm not TELLING YOU what to do. Just trying to make it easier on you & your Dad I hope this adventure is a FUN filled time for the both of you. Rick

That sounds like a great project car. I hope it's as nice as it looks so you can get it. Also congrats on passing your inspection.

Trust me, this is not the first car we are looking at. This has been a 2 year hunt so far. We just keep adding money to the fund and keep looking. Many cars have promised to be rust-free, etc. And then when we got there, popped the trunk, we just walked away.

White doesn't stay white in the sun, agreed. But this car will be garaged 24/7 besides shows and joy-rides. I don't think we will have a hard time keeping it white.

I like the term "tribute car".

We already have the OPG book on order, my brother-in-law already ordered it. They would both be 68 Camaros, so that is nice

Again, we haven't decided to purchase it, we just asked the guy if he would take xxx amount of dollars if we had the cash (3k less than he is asking) and he said he would. So it is probably going to be worth the look.
