All right, we're now in the final four months of the year -- one third of 2018 remains.
(For the latest weather reports from Detroit, just tune in to W06M.) ;)

Well, my Pace Car Monte gave me an unpleasant surprise a few nights ago when I got back in it after a quick grocery store stop, and it refused to start and completely died. :wtf: :wtf: No lights, no sounds, no warning, nothing!

Everything looked okay, and the battery terminals were still tight; but two different jumpstart attempts were made, and both failed. After a while, a mechanic friend I know came over to the store parking lot with some equipment, and succeeded somehow in restoring the connection since the battery still tested good. So the Z34 started right up, and we drove it to his place for a charge-up and a closer inspection. Turned out the positive terminal had built up a lot of corrosion inside, so he cleaned it all out, and I'm happy again.
No tow truck necessary, no battery replacement or anything else either!

:happyanim:

Just gotta keep an eye on those sneaky little battery terminals, I guess.

Yep, a similar instance happened on a 4th Gen Monte I owned once and after I clean out the side terms the thing was back good again. I put a new battery in the Monte last month and cleaned it all up and it should be good for a bit, Menards had AC Delco batteries on sale and I got a new one. The old one was 5 years old and had a bulge in it. Didn't want to get stranded.

Labor day weekend is almost over

Well Labor day is near over. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
I am including the new Photo themes for September. Make sure you find the October and November themes in the Off topic section and give it a try.

September Photo contest themes
(got 3 again) Something you can be on the lookout for. https://montecarloforum.com/forum/im...s/thumbsup.gif
#1 Back Alleys Careful on this one! but every one knows of a back alley someplace to take a photo.
#2 Inside looking out Your in your car taking a photo of any subject you want. Could be a pretty girl, another car. Moving or standing still. Remember to show something in the photo so you can see it was in the car.
#3 Fences and Gates This can be any fence or Gate that is cool for a subject wood, iron, brick, old, new but there is probably a fun spot out there for that.

Good morning guys. Going up into the mid-90s today. Couple days of heat and then Thursday highs will drop down into the low 70s.

Had a very nice Labor Day weekend! Got some work done around the house, went kayaking Sunday and took the boat out yesterday.

And I ended up taking a 'Top-40' award at the show in Durand on Saturday! That included being in the 'Top-4' of '1987 and Newer'. Total surprise, I wasn't expecting it in the slightest, roughly 270 cars there. Nice day and a cool show with six blocks of Durand's main street lined with cars on both sides. Met up with a few MMCC members there including the 71 next to me. I did get hammered with storms on the way home - there was times I couldn't see 50 ft ahead of me.

Good evening everyone, congrats Matt on the top 40 wiin :congrats: Just winding down for the summer here and getting ready for the fall leaves and spending some quality time on the lake and in the woods. My Monte has started to show me one of the weak parts as the torque converter is starting to rattle under acceleration. Now in situation of deciding of what kind of stall I will need. Kinda screws up a few plans as I was invited by one of the members to make a car show with them and I was in process of getting permission to take some pictures for this months contest.

06mistreSS 09-07-2018 10:43 AM

Guten morgen jungs.

Gettin' in the Bavarian spirit! Wife and I are heading up to Frankenmuth tomorrow for the 35th An. Frankenmuth AutoFest. Three day event and roughly 2,500 cars. This show is 1987 and older so we'll be spectating, not participating. Tonight is their 'big block party', one mile along Main St for show cars. Might participate next year - that's the only hint I'm dropping right now ;)

Good morning everyone, just hanging out this week as work has slowed down, Gives me some time to catch up on some things before the cold set's in and the snow starts flying. Even though it's nice here I really hope the people on the east coast take the warning and find a safe place to avoid the storm bearing down on them. Remembering today for all we lost and for those who put there lives on the line to help others. :flag:

A few years ago we took a trip to the east coast, Boston on up to Maine and it was a fall tour to look at the foliage, our Bus driver told us about his being a NY bus driver and he kept going back to retrieve stranded people from when the towers fell down. At one time his bus was so full it blew the inside duals on the rear of the bus. He still had 6 tires good yet, but it was sketchy he said.
I also worked with several people who today have a cough from being in the city from that day.
I hate to see this stuff again it just makes me mad again.

Truly sorry to hear about your friends, just last week we had a discussion in class about how the EPA handled the cleanup. Btw I remove what they claim wasn't there. They ignored peoples safety during the clean up and now survivors are paying the price.

Hurricane Florence is going to hit the coast of NC within the next couple of days. It's a big storm with a lot of potential rainfall and a dangerous storm surge. I've already got sandbags filled and the Monte will go up on jackstands tomorrow.

Wow stay safe, I will keep you in my prayers.
I saw that some one used that Flex tape to seal the outside of doors and in worked you if you can find that it may help a little?

Be safe and do what you can, were all hoping this will be over soon. As drivernumber 3 mentioned you will be in our prayers

nitehawkjcb 09-12-2018 09:35 AM

Thanks for the prayers guys. We are about as prepared as we can be. I'd be lucky to find even scotch tape around here right now lol.

The latest forecast has it turning further west, away from my area a bit more. Don't get me wrong, we still are in a hurricane warning, but hopefully nothing catastrophic occurs here. The biggest concern I have is the winds from the storm pushing water from the sound over the land, which is still a very real possibility, especially paired with torrential rain. The Wilmington - Morehead City areas look like they're going to get hit head on though... I sure would have evacuated if I lived there, and I hope everybody that lives down there has evacuated...

GTHSS 09-16-2018 07:34 AM

Good morning all. We dodged a bullet with the hurricane. But i have family and friends down east in NC. Praying for them.

Went to a closed airstrip with my engine builder yesterday for my first time down a dragstrip as a passenger in his 69 Chevelle 440 cid small block 705 hp 770 lbs a 1/4 mile car.We managed 2 wheelies and ran 6 seconds at 98 in the 1/8 mile on a time slip and our fastest pass went I un recorded. Got some pics of some of the Montes and a few other oddballs like the high boy with the 427 sitting between the guys legs , reminded me of a sprint car. If you look hard at the pink Monte you'll notice the quarter panel is buckled because on body twist was same on other side.Had a great first experience.

nitehawkjcb 09-18-2018 10:30 AM

Hey all, our area has been mostly spared from the hurricane, but many places closer to the rivers and creeks have been flooded out for a while now. Nothing like what is being seen in New Bern & Wilmington though. Be blessed my Monte brethren.

Glad you're ok nitehawkjcb. We had a lot of flooding, roads completely washed out, and a few tornados Monday, luckily no local injuries. Right now there is still 41 roads closed in my county due to damage/washouts from Monday's storms. At least here in the rolling hills of the Piedmont region water drains away quickly. Still, the people down east in NC really do have it bad.Coastal Carolina is so low and flat it takes forever for flooding to recede.

nitehawkjcb 09-19-2018 02:33 PM

Thanks guys. Even Virginia Beach has a lot of flooding still. It is good to hear you're OK after those tornadoes - from what I understand there were 5 in the Richmond area, and one closer to the NC/VA border.

Yeah the one on the Carolina Virginia border came right by my mother's and my son's house then came within a mile of my house. Luckily no injuries here, but I think Richmond had pne or two fatalities. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of those involved in the tornadoes and the flooding.

GTHSS 09-25-2018 06:13 AM

Good morning MCF.

drivernumber3 09-25-2018 08:35 AM

Cooled off some

Wow this weekend was warm on Saturday and Sunday it really cooled down. Today some rain but light showers.

06mistreSS 09-27-2018 11:36 AM

Good afternoon all.

Been back home for a few days now. My wife and I just got back from a two week trip to Europe that included a 7 day cruise. Great time but we got our butts kicked lol. Barcelona, Gibralter, Marseille, Genoa, Pisa/Florence and Rome.

Glad to hear everyone in the hurricane's path is okay. Speaking of tornadoes, we had 3 here in SE MI two nights ago - two EF1s and one EF0 in Wayne and Monroe Counties.

I know it's been a while since I've been on here. I was actually about to sell my 06 but yesterday I changed my mind. I had a guy lined up to buy the car, at a very good price, but when it came down to it he flaked out. Since the whole situation completely changed I became a little reluctant at selling this car and buying an Aerocoupe I found for sale (maroon 87 with 4,100 miles on it). And then last night I dropped my 06 off at a dealership, for some long overdue maintenance work, and the service dept guys were absolutely drooling over it. That reaction, plus some input from my Wife, basically reassured me to not sell it and made me realize what I have in this car. It was great to even have this whole situation come about but I think it worked out how it was supposed to. My Aerocoupe is out there and can wait til the opportunity to have both cars. The 06 has had some battery issues for a few years so it's in for a new negative battery cable, new battery and a trans fluid change.

GTHSS 09-28-2018 03:41 AM

Glad you're keeping the Monte!!!

06mistreSS 09-28-2018 05:53 AM

Good morning guys.

We've had some cool mornings this week - yesterday was 43 degrees when I headed out for work and today was 48. I'm still all messed up with the time change from our trip so I've been up and wide awake at 3-4am thus I've been getting to work super early (might as well).

Yeah me too! I'll be picking it back up from the dealership today. I guess that whole situation made me realize that I should invest in some maintenance that I've been putting off for several years - like the battery/cable, like the trans fluid change, like the brakes. I think the battery has been giving me issues because there was so much corrosion built up in the actual negative cable/sleeve that I don't think it was allowing the necessary charge through. I've just been so busy with buying and renovating two homes (home #2 still ongoing), getting married and going on some good vacations.

JuniorCar 09-28-2018 07:08 PM

I drove the BudChev over 100,000 kms on the odometer today. It was a big deal for me, so I posted about it with pics.

It's weird seeing the extra digit there. It's so old!

Well, you know what they say -- "Age isn't really a number; it's a state of mind." :drivin:

It has been Chilly here the last few days 50 Friday, 43 yesterday and today. Friday went on a 200 mile trip with some friends on a Junk Jaunt, they call it like a Garage sale you travel form town to town for.
Found some neat stuff, found some stuff that was high priced too. No body wanted to deal on stuff because it was the first day but the whole weekend was supposed to be wet and cold.

I saw your photo's from your Vacation that was really cool. How lucky and so much fun!!

I know what you mean about the maintenance. I used to travel with the Monte for my sales job and I was very faithful with getting preventative maintenance completed.
So last year the Low Coolant light kept coming on and I knew it wasn't Low so I thought about a Radiator flush and took it to the Chevy dealer for that, asked them to put in a new thermostat too.
So I thought it was really taking along time and I checked with the Service manger and he said they had just finished the Trans fluid Change, I am like what?
That had been done a few years ago and maybe a 1000 miles or so on that. So they didn't charge me. The service lady put in the wrong code when she wrote it up on the Computer.
They then did the Radiator flush and new Thermostat. The new Therm was $65.00 on the invoice. So they tried to reclaim some of the Trans Fluid change.
I am going to need to change out the Brakes and new Rotors ( the rotors still look pretty good the shop said they could just turn them) I said no, they checked the miles and asked me how many times I had done the brakes 190K and just once before. They said BS, I said no that's right. Brakes are the last thing I use, they just laughed don't think they believed it.
I think maybe the tie rod ends this year but I can handle that myself.
So I also went to the Last Fling til Spring this year, I didn't get anything.
I actually worked it as doing the Intimidator thing.
They let me park my Car close by and said they would tell the Judges I was there. But I never seen them so I would imagine they missed me. I must have taken pics with 500 people and another 500 just took shots of me. I never got a break from 12:noon to 5:30PM, it was nuts. It was a fun time but Hot, good thing I had more than one outfit along.

JuniorCar 09-30-2018 03:21 PM

Yeah... $65 thermostat is probably the record! So, y'know, the glass is half full - you got the record

drivernumber3 09-30-2018 09:40 PM

The bend over discount. No doubt.

However this is the same Dealer that the owner himself gave us a 1997 Transport to drive after my wife totaled our other Van with a Train in 97 a few days before Christmas.
The new van we had for 2 weeks with no obligation to buy it. The insurance adjuster was on vacation and I had to wait for a settlement.
Then he let me have this 2010 Bumble Bee Camaro to drive in our local parade. then after he wanted to display it at the local Carshow and when I asked him if he just wanted me to take it back to the Dealership before I brought it down. He told me to enjoy it. So I am still slightly ahead of the game. See the photo's attached. Lol
But the last car we bought was the Equinox in 2013 this dealer had it. But the salesperson wasn't willing to deal. So the wife bought it out of town. They got it from the dealership here and sold it to us. Kind of a dumb thing. They should have just met the other guys price?
