Mornin' folks!

It must be nice to be able to wait until light to shovel! All my daylight hours are spend at work (at least on weekdays). Its just breaking light when I get there about 7:30 and dark by 6:00 when I leave. Which means the shoveling, done before or after work, is still done in the freezing damn dark. It seems even colder in the dark, even if it isn't

Dave that was bad about the pile up, I hope the injuries were minimal.

Good luck on the job search Keane.

We are headed out to the doughnut shop and then to spend some gift cards. I do not enjoy shopping but at least there will be DONUTS!

Enjoy your weekend everybody!

Good morning guys. Someone turn up the heat! This entire past week has not reached 20 F and it's still cold; currently -17 F.

Like Dave mentioned, heavy isolated lake effect snow sparked two huge pileups in Michigan yesterday; one involving roughly 50 vehicles on US-23 right here near Ann Arbor and another involving 193 vehicles on I-94 between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek (pictured below). There was a semi-truck involved in the I-94 incident carrying fireworks that caught fire and went off.

I-94 pileup raw video as it was happening and a few pictures:

That is very Sad & looks like a War Zone. I'm thankful that I do not have to drive on ice/snow You would think with all the technology in todays world that there would be a warning to close the highways/Interstate roads (?)

Wish everyone clear/safe roads to travel 4>Sure * I was surprised to see in your posted video how fast the
vehicles were traveling (WoW)

Thumbs up >Back 2 'Space<

I watched the below this morning from
the warehouse parking lot
(only a few miles away)

A commercial Falcon 9 rocket built by SpaceX successfully launched a Dragon cargo ship toward the International

Station early Saturday (Jan. 10) — and then returned to Earth, apparently impacting its target ocean platform during a dramatic and highly anticipated landing test in the Atlantic.

The Falcon 9 rocket launched into space at 4:47 a.m. EST (0947 GMT) Saturday from Florida's Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, kicking off SpaceX's fifth unmanned cargo mission to the orbiting for NASA after a four-day delay. The liftoff was originally scheduled for Tuesday (Jan. 6), but was pushed back because of an issue with an actuator on the rocket's second stage.
Not all of the action Saturday was in the upward direction: The company also aimed to bring the Falcon 9's first stage down for a precision landing on an "autonomous spaceport drone ship" in the Atlantic Ocean. The rocket stage apparently hit its target, but a bit too hard. [SpaceX's Reusable Rocket Landing Test Explained (Infographic)]

SpaceRider, this was lake effect snow which can be extremely heavy and blinding in isolated areas. You can be driving in perfectly clear, sunny conditions one minute, and the next you enter complete blizzard where you cannot see ten feet in front of you - I've encountered conditions like this a number of times and it can catch you off guard if you aren't careful. Same thing that caused the US-23 pileup yesterday. Most likely, even at reduced speeds, by the time these people saw the pileup in front of them they had no time to react and/or slow down. I drove through several lake effect bands just on the commute home last night, and a section of 696 was bone dry moving at posted speeds. It's crazy how conditions can fluctuate even in a short distance.

Crazy but even with this winter weather I still love my Michigan.
