I've made LOTS of mistakes in my LONG life. Even though I completed a 4 year apprenticeship program, one of THE bigger mistakes was previous to that. That was quitting college and NOT getting at LEAST a bachelors degree. It MORE important NOW than ever in the almost 40 years I've been working. Many GOOD employers don't even care what discipline your degree is in, as long as you have it. Otherwise, there's the door! They won't even take your resume without a degree. THAT's my problem now. I'm extremely specialized in my trade, but no engineering degree. A mechanical or electrical engineering degree would be REAL handy right now.
BTW, I'd been a chemist in a paper mill somewhere right now, maybe, if I'd stuck with college. Paper Science at WMU.
Britanny, are ya listening? Others still in school or college? Right MCF family?
