Tim, I can also appreciate how hard it is to home school. I had my kids in private school for several years, and know others that have home schooled, and a family of 4 girls that is being home schooled right now! It is TOUGH, but Todd will agree with me on this, that budgets just do not allow the quality contact that is even close to what home schooling is. The family I know, like I said, has 4 girls. That's a 1:4 ratio. What are public schools, 1:35 or so?
Todd, I'm not knocking you at ALL. Teaching remedial studies is VERY hard. Most of the students could care less about being there. Grand Rapids Central H.S. has a 35% GRADUATION rate! I commend you for your desire to teach middle school students. I also commend you for your dedication to this forum. You are a HUGE asset to us here.

I used to go to a country school in elem.. till 6th and it was challenging, but i had 2 classmates most the time so we got alot of one on one time and i found myself doing easy once I moved into a class of 20 or so we have now. I think its alot easier to slack off when the teachers treat you as a group and not a person. I used to almost cry over an 80, now its like " oh I passed" but ya know life goes on lol. I think homeschool would be fun though, but then you miss out on all the social stuff for the most part. Just my opinion
The school systems here in Windsor have a maximum classroom size. It was negotiated bythe teachers unions. I don't know what the exact amount is anymore. But I think it's between 20-30 students per teacher.
Home schooling is a disadvantage in the sense that you don't get the social interaction, and exposure to various cultures like you would in a regular school. If I have kids, I think I would prefer they go to a regular school.
Besides, gotta keep good teachers like Todd working!
(good grammar huh? "gotta" )

There IS a THIRD option, and that is private schools, such as the parochial church run schools. Yes, it's more expensive, but you then get the small class sizes AND social interfacing. But it's expensive, but IMHO, it's worth EVERY PENNY if you get the smaller Christian schools. The bigger inner city schools, like Kalamazoo Christian still have the large classes and all the problems associated with schools that size. I'm talking about the small schools that are held IN the churches. 50-200 kids in K-12 total. I honestly do not believe you can find better schools than these.
