Default lets talk about garages

i think i got a decent plan in my head here but i figured i would see if you guys come up with anything better. i am buying the house i have been renting so once i buy it i plan on building a garage providing the borough will let me. i am planning on building a 2 car wide 2 car deep garage. outside dimensions will be 40ft long, 21ft wide, 12ft high. i will have a work bench with all my tools and compressor, welder, keg-orator etc with a bathroom in the one corner up front also. one 16ft garage door with one man door on the opposite side of the garage. the one bay up front will also have a lift installed. basically its gonna be turbo monte and the cts-v up front and the daily drivers pulled behind them.

good idea? bad idea? suggestions?

i wanted to go at least 24ft wide but property lines restrict me to 21ft

i have a shed for lawn care items so they will not be in the garage.

Thanks `John for your reply & sense of humor..
I hope that you can build the garage you desire & that your plans pass code.

It's sad sometimes how many building codes to comply to in some area's of the country.....That's why I really like isolated islands (lol) Good Luck on your Dream Garage 4-Sure

Well, I am glad you mentioned the keg-o-rator. I have an old fridge in my shop that stays stocked with beer.

Outside of that I will caution you to plan on the needed ceiling height for the area with the lift. I know a guy who bought such a nice lift that it will not fit in his shop. Now he has to build a bigger one.

There is a a forum called www.garagejournal.com. You can get some good ideas there. Maybe the MCF could start a garage discussion/ideas section.

My shop is a 20x20 cinder block shop, concrete floor and a 4-12 pitch A roof. I like it but it is not big enough.

Good luck with the borough and permits!

Thanks man, that's the pitch roof I am also going with. I figured 12ft ceilings would be high enough but I may have to reconsider. Thanks for the heads up!

Hi Turbo
Hope these pictures loaded as I am new to this forum.
My barn is 26x40x 10 ft walls with scissor trusses which are 4/12 exterior pitch and 2/12 interior pitch..
This worked out fine to sneak in my 11,000# Lift My son can raise his 1 ton Dodge Ram on it all the way with room to spare. I didn't go 12 ft walls as I have overhead wires that restricted my overall height.
Main door is 9x18 to make entry a breeze for anything
Side rollup door is 7x7 and is wonderful for getting equipment in and out
If I could have I would have gone longer and wider as you never have enough space , no matter what you plan for.
I also put a 16 ft long 6x6 up in the trusses to spread the load for a 1,000 # chainfall and Im glad did
Hope this helps

Thanks for the pics that's exactly what I want I just can't go that wide. I'm hoping 21ft wide exterior dimension will allow me to get 2 cars side by side.

Garage looks great!!
