Default Latest Face Book update lets them spy on you?

Was at a site and an article mentions how when you download the latest Face Book update, buried in all the legal agreements are some disturbing add on's. Apparently by agreeing to the new terms it gives them the right to activate your smart phones Microphone with out your permission, activate your camera without your permission and even delete your phones SD card contents without your permission. Glad I still have my old flip phone. Why would they need to know things without you uploading it to them. Perhaps take screen shots at an awkward moment. Or listen in when you want privacy, and why delte SD card contents?? Excerpts from the discussion of the other sites forum members:

Again, they're asking for your permission to record audio & video at any time, without your confirmation. This is word for word. Of course they will sell it to you for a new cool feature, but you still gave them the right to record you at any time, without any kind of input from you or any confirmation it is doing it. Unless you force quit the app on Android, it always sits in the background to update your notifications.

I just checked it out on both my tablet and my Android cell, you could see this perfectly from the tablet but on my cell it would NOT allow me to see the permissions at all.
I just made a big status update about it and put up pics, also sent a mass message to every person on my friends list letting them know. This is completely unacceptable for Facebook to do.

I actually agree with this. But, it is also pretty conveniently worded for one day, in the future, when a court has to decide whether you have a right to sue Facebook for allowing DHS to access your microphone or camera because you acknowledged that the app does have the right to do so. And you lose your case.

EDIT: I feel like if we were discussing it in terms of you using the app for these purposes without such confirmation...you would expect perhaps "This permission allows the app to access your microphone when you record audio without your confirmation." instead of what it says: "This permission allows the app to record audio at any time without your confirmation."

Confirmation - definition: "acknowledgement with definite assurance", "sanction" and (importantly) "corroboration"

Is this the typical word used for hitting the OK button or "Allow" button?

Also, why "at any time" ...why not "when you use it to record" or other such time specification. I think we can all agree that "at any time" is a wider span of time than "when you record with it". That's odd to me most of all.

The internet is public domain... you are not entitled to any privacy.

I'm just wondering why you weren't already concerned with them farming and selling everyone's information/data to marketing firms.

Just don't use facebook simple as that.

Clever. Everyone's worried about the government spying on us. And while our attention is diverted to the government's latest shenanigans, facebook is doing exactly what we suspect the government of doing.

Providing this is not just another internet hoax.

Not calling anyone a liar. But how many of us actually read the legal agreements when we sign up or download something? Not many I suspect. And the fact that they go on forever, means they can easily slip things in there.

This isn't for spying.

They are rolling out the ability to take video from the app, and video and microphone chats through facebook, kind of like a VOIP, and they don't want to have to ask your permission every time the 3rd party app is making a request to the "1st party" phone feature.

Sometimes things have to be worded this way, you don't HAVE to use it, but some people do blow this a little out of proportion.

Is that really the answer the internet is public domain? The article was making a point that your private time at home might not be so private, not about what you post on facebook . Have read where ones web cam can even be remotely activated and you can be watched without your knowledge. It's a spy vs spy game world we now live in it would seem. I don't have a facebook account myself.

I'm not on FaceBook, but I think it must be a good social network for the amount of people that are member's.

I just don't have that much time...My net time is for the MCF, Auto Sites, Research (personal & professional) + trying to stay caught up with a ton a emails from family/friends around planet earth...

I do my best to master my time, but there's only 24 hours in a day

When I retired, I will become a member...
Thanks `Greg for your Thread & keeping member's updated on what's going on out there on the `web

Greg, read Chibi's post. As for the webcam thing you mentioned. I remeber seeing that on the news. But that involved hacking. Which is illegal in the first place. If you have a webcam, simply unplug it or cover it when you don't want to use it.

FWIW, I only have one anonymous FB account so I could shop and/or spy on my competition.
