Now if you have what I got... 3gb ram with 320gb hard drive..THAT is something that needs upgrading. From what I've heard there is only so much you can do to upgrade the k50ij...

My laptop now has 3gb of ram, limited because of the 32 bit os. I have another serious question for you all. Windows 7 or 8? I can get the laptop in either and i'm not sure which i should get.

WINDOWS 7!!!! ALL THE WAY! I personally got a few machines in at work with Windows 8 and we originally had left them that way, I hate them. It takes forever to find the basic things. A touch screen makes it a little easier to use the various options of the start menu (sports app, the Facebook...friends app thing), etc. but for actually using the computer for work it's annoying. We downgraded them back to 7.

Also, I got my dad a new desktop computer for Christmas (Dell Inspiron 660 I believe - I get half off through work) with could only come with Windows 8 - he does like the added features on the start menu, like the Sports "app" as he can add his teams, etc. But all the other built in "apps" are a PITA, instead of playing a song through WMP it goes through the "Music" app which is slow and buggy, so you take a whole day just going around setting default programs. The computer wants you to use a Windows Live ID for your user account and the app store is dominated by XBox content. You can create a local account, however.

My dad is getting used to the new system, but I really am not a fan of it.

I tried 8 in best buy once and i struggled badly I just wanted to find the specs on the machine and it took me a while. But at the same time i feel like i could adjust to 8. Also someone told me about an open source program called "Classic Shell" That allows you to get back to the usual windows feel, but i haven't looked into that.

Something like that, yeah. I got an email from a co-worker who does a little remote computer assistance on the side and he found an article on CNET that lists quite a few programs/tweaks to make it work and look like Win 7, but honestly, I'd rather downgrade to 7 than put all the crap into my computer/tweak my reg to change the way it functions.

You'll eventually get the hang of it, it took me a few hours of on and off playing with them to get the hang for where everything is, or at least find some way to get where I wanted, just for a business setting, I think Win 8 is too entertainment focused for "work use."

Just don't get something too big, I bought a Dell Studio 1737 (17") probably 3 years ago - it weighs A TON, it doesn't leave my desk. I like the Dell Studio line, personally. I have a 15" at work that is big enough to see but light enough to carry. For personal I also have a 13" MacBook Pro, that I.....never use.

If you go with Windows 8 there are a lot of things to learn... But there is still desktop mode. Personally though, I'd go with Windows 7. Act quickly though, ASUS is trying to stop putting Win 7 on their systems so they can push Win 8
