Get whatever you can find that is easy to open up and work on.

I wouldn't want to buy a laptop that was a unibody shell where I couldn't open it and upgrade it as needed.

A lot of the parts are being used by all the same people. It's all about how you treat a computer, and I'm sure you would treat one well.

I've had my desktop since 06, my laptop since 07. I just keep upgrading them as I see fit.

Honestly, look for something that feels sturdy and is of aluminum (not plastic) build. Most companies use the very same internals, build quality can vary, but most are fairly similar.

Apple - Overpriced, decent hardware - Can definitely find better for the price.
Asus - Great build quality - Good hardware
HP - Very Similar to Asus - Great build quality - good hardware - some HDD problems (hit or miss as it is with any company)
Toshiba - Don't get a plastic one - Aluminum ones have good build quality and components
Acer - They're not bad if they're aluminum - still a lower price/quality computer
Sony - meh - good all around - overpriced like apple

With that laptop you shouldn't need to upgrade anything.

The only brands I wouldn't recommend are HP/Compaq and Acer/Gateway.
