For everyday driving...I prefer a manual transmission.
For racing..I prefer an automatic that I manually shift with a ZGate shifter.

Hi Barbara & thanks for being the first to post.

Many of the new automatic have proven to be faster then manual transmissions. Example> The new Corvette & Camaro's..

I still like manuals & being involved more with my vehicle. I guess I should say close/ratios manual transmission with a good road course rear gear.

I look 4ward to see what our member's prefer (Vote in the Poll)

Cool

I have always enjoyed the Manual Shift Trans.
But you can't hardly find them any more.
A joke that many of my fellow racers often would say if its an Automatic its a girls car.
Also they say that the automatic will always win in a race, not so.

Back in the day of the Muscle Car era I only had the manual 4speed, when I would race it, they thought is was an Automatic because of the similar sound I could get it to make.
Next time you watch Eleanor on gone in 60 when they do the bridge fly over, I was that quick on the shift or better.

About 3 to 4 years back I was asked to test my skill against another driver with an Automatic, I got the same car with a 6 speed manual.
The owner of the Car with the manual trans was surprised on what I did to make it all work that quick and he had never tried it. ( it's a secret)
The only thing I told him was if I break it you still own it and I won't pay anything to fix it.
The other driver needs to go back to school.
One other thing is you need a Posi rear end to do this stuff!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing about the double clutch trick you don't do that when you race, this was a trick that was used when you drove an unsynchronized manual trans to get the thing in gear, however if you can't find it? grind it?
If you watch the chase scene in the movie Bullet you hear the Mustang that Steve McQueen was driving double clutch, but you will struggle to win a race with that technique.

I prefer my manual, which is why I daily drive it, but I never look down on a car because it's an auto.

I can only speak of the Camaro (Big surprise ?)

Anyway the 8 speed paddle shift automatic camaro advantages:
1) Faster than Manual (fraction of seconds not a big deal to me)
2) better gas milage (not by much again not a big deal to me)
3) More convenient while in stop and go traffic and while on an incline

6 speed Manual

1) Has Rev match (no double clutching required on down shifts)
2) I believe it will be more fun
3) About $1,600 cheaper than the Automatic optional trannie
4) Family will not ask to drive it as they will not know how
5) One just does not buy an automatic shift sport car (what's sporty about that?)

They do sell short throws, but I don't think I'm going to bother with that upgrade soon.

This spring I'm gonna change my trans fluid, and see if that fixes the 1-2 shift, before I look into mechanical changes.

I do like the 2016, but I still think I like my 5th gen more than the 6th (I would miss my inferno orange color too much). Although I am curious to give the new turbo 4-cyl a test drive.

Thanks `Tadd for your posts. + from what I've read online is that the clutch pressure is not heavy or stiff like other monster machine like the new S.S.
below from Motor Trend
. The powerband is so broad that you hardly need to shift the Camaro when running hard through the canyons, which is a shame because this six-speed manual is pretty fantastic. The gearbox is slick and precise with pedals perfectly placed for heel-toeing. Ride and handling are worlds better than the Camaro it replaces; steering is sharp, nicely weighted, and precise.
