Here in Missouri they need a better reason to pull you over than just not wearing a seatbelt. The last time a cop popped me, he said I crossed the yellow line while making a left turn (you'd have to make a crazy wide turn to avoid it). I knew he only wanted to bust me for not wearing a seatbelt cus he really couldn't ticket me for that. In MO it only costs you $10 for no seatbelt. The hick town made a dollar a minute off me. COPS LIE.

yea i'm definitely going to fight this. i'm not paying some bogus amount for not even being in the wrong.

i'll do everything i can to prove that there is no way of telling if i was wearing one or not.

BUT............. it must have been "National Pull Everyone Over Day" yesterday cause I got pulled over too.

I had to go in to work early yesterday and today. Like 3:00am. So yesterday I'm leaving my drive and just as I'm pulling down a cop drives past my house. He must have seen my brake lights as I do no use any lights when I'm leaving my house. So............ other people can't see me leaving that early in the morning either. The cop does a U-turn in the middle of the country road that goes past my house and flies up behind me. Flips on his lights and I pulled over.

"Morning sir. We had some burglaries in the area and I'm just checking up."
I told him I lived at the house I pulled out of and if he liked I could provide my ID for him.
He told me no that wasn't nessessary and walked off. I asked if I was free to go and he said okay. Which still made me late for work. But that's better then a ticket.

listen to this... do what my friend did. paint your buckle (the silver part) black then take a picture, bring it to court (you get to cross examine the cop by the way if you plead not guilty) and ask him "so you saw the SILVER buckle hanging there huh??" when he says yes, bring the picture out of you BLACK buckle, i swear it worked for him!!! for me it was easier cause i brought my wife in and she said i was wearing it, so they didnt prove beyond a reasonable dought..

You need to speak to a lawyer, legal counsel is free, whether or not you opt to have it is what costs money.

Check your states laws. In some states, it is illegal for an officer to pull you over for a seat belt infraction, they can only get you for that after they pull you over for something else due to visibility, which is what happened to you. However, if your state isn't one of them, then it's your words against theirs, who do you think the judge will believe?

Power goes to some officers heads... $100 isn't a big deal, but I would fight it just over principle.

What did you go to court for if you were clearly in the wrong and had no grounds to fight the ticket on?

Hi Drew,
Now it's two police officer's against one civilian
Getting caught by the Police for Street Racing has cost me
Big $'s, but I was in the wrong.

I am not defending these officer's `if they set you up to
make their quota, or maybe because they were jealous of
your AweSome Monte Carlo.
Unfortunately, there are some power hungry law enforcement
officers , but I hope our membership doesn't judge all
the officers that risk they lives everyday to protect the masses,
including you, your family & friends.

If you are innocent, I would obtain legal counsel & have your
attorney check the officers work records for complaints,
and see if other citizens filed complaints against the officers.
If I was wrongly accused, I would gladly submit to a polygraph
examine to confirm my innocence.
Good Luck `Drew, & keep us updated on the outcome
4-Sure.
Thanks Member's for your input & experience.
Has anyone ever had a police officer help them or someone you know ? Thanks for keeping this thread civil..
Below link has infor on your States Seat Belt Law

The new law requires all passengers — regardless of age or seating position — to wear a seat belt. Violators will face a $25 fine.

Minnesota's new primary seat belt law will take affect Tuesday, June 9. The law will allow police and state troopers can stop any vehicle if the driver -- or any passenger -- is not wearing a seat belt.
